Promo & GIVEAWAY: "Dating A Cougar II"

Banner Option II
DAC Cover
Firefighter and eco entrepreneur Walter Graham II is tired of dating beautiful, but unsettled women who don’t know what they want from life. He wants to date a woman who’s as smart as she is attractive—someone who can talk about interesting things—someone confident about her work. He wants to date Jane Fox, but the sexy older woman keeps coming up with logical reasons why a relationship could never work between them. Yet he has to keep trying because Jane is the only woman who has even turned on his body and his brain at the same time. If he could just get his reluctant ‘cougar’ into bed, Walter is sure he can give that smart mind of hers a lot more to consider than just their age difference. Man and Woman

Four days later, Walter walked under the ‘Welcome Back’ banner hung over the door of the office and found Amanda humming. The office was filled with vases and flowers. Come to think of it. . .he backed up and looked out at the sitting area. . .plants and flowers adorned every available surface. “I appreciate the warm reception, but don’t you think this is a bit much for people living on fixed incomes?”

“Don’t look at me or the residents here. Most of the flower shop is compliments of the adoring multitude of Mr. March fans that I had to run out of here yesterday. I let them hang the banner and leave the stuff, but told them they couldn’t wait here for you. You’re looking much better, by the way,” Amanda said a smile. “And lucky you, your hair even hides your stitches. You can’t even tell that a building fell in on you.”

Walter sank down into the chair across from her, thinking about all the times he had sat across from Jane. Hindsight was always 20/20. He should have told the chief to pull that damn photo from the second print run of the calendar. His energy level still hadn’t returned to normal yet. He had no resources to deal with all the stupid calendar publicity crap right now.

“Sorry about Daniel having to pull double shifts for a couple of weeks,” he said, watching Amanda shrug off his apology.

“Don’t even go there. Clinton’s out for six months to a year, but Eric will be back in two weeks when you are. We’re just glad you’re all alive. No worries—truly. We’ll deal with a few long shifts,” she insisted.

Walter nodded, feeling gratitude that she and Daniel were in his life. “So, Harrison said you took great care of the place while I was out.”

Amanda smiled again, fighting back a giggle this time. “Yes, I have. I even survived Dorothy Henderson’s offer to feel her fake breasts. It was fine. I’d always wanted to touch a set to see what they felt like anyway.”

“Oh, God. I forgot to warn you about how proud Dorothy was of her enhancements. Sorry,” Walter said, groaning at the thought of the older woman making such an offer to Amanda. “Glad you aren’t easily offended. That would definitely not work around here.”

“Yeah, I get that. Harrison filled me in on why she offers, and then told me a hilarious story about some guy’s girlfriend catching him in the process of checking them out. It’s crazy some days, but I do love it here. Even when we lose one. I guess Harrison told you that the resident in Willow #34 passed away. Her family is coming by next week to collect her things,” Amanda reported, refusing to think about how different she would have been feeling if Walter hadn’t made it out of the fire. And Daniel. . .that just didn’t bear thinking about. Daniel and Walter were as tight as most brothers.

“People dying around here is just one of the many things I don’t like about the people side of this business. Did Jane. . .” Walter paused as he drifted off.

He closed his eyes and called himself stupid for caring. Jane had come to see him that first day in the hospital, but hadn’t returned at all for the three days after. Not that he blamed her for staying away with his mother camped out in his room with him. His father had slept at his place, but even Harrison hadn’t been able to get his mother to leave his side. His parents had finally flown back to DC the day he was released. Now that the whole hospital thing was behind him though, he had to ask about the one person that hadn’t stayed in constant contact. Hope about her was all he had to keep him going. God, he was so lovesick it hurt.

“Did Jane Fox happen to call to say if she was coming by North Winds today?”

Amanda wrinkled her forehead. “Call? Why would Jane call you? She’s already here.”

Here? Jane’s here? Like at North Winds?” Walter repeated, sitting up straighter.

“Yes. . .she is here,” Amanda answered slowly. “Are you sure you’re okay, Walter?”

“Of course. Why would I not be okay?” Walter asked.

“Because Jane’s been here every day, all day. I assumed you two had arranged it. She said she was working with you on your renovation projects. The architects certainly think she’s got the right to tell them what to do.”

“Jane? Yes, well she is working with me,” Walter confirmed. “I just thought. . .I mean, I didn’t know she was here. . . already.”

He had been worried he’d scared her away in the hospital. Instead, she’d been here—taking care of him in another kind of way.

“What’s she been doing with the architects?”

“Stalling until you get back. . .from what I can tell anyway,” Amanda said, shrugging. “She’s been trying to keep things from moving along too quickly, but at the same time, she’s been helping the architects make their final decisions about where to put the geo thermal pools.”

Walter stood. “Where is she now?”

“Out for coffee with Brenner, but they should be back shortly. They never stay gone long,” Amanda said.

“Brenner? Tall guy with long hair who thinks he’s God’s answer to every woman’s prayers?” Walter asked, bringing the image of the lean, confident architect to mind.

Amanda giggled. “Pretty sure that would be the one. Are you actually jealous of him being with Jane?”

“No. What makes you think I’m jealous?” Walter asked.

“Because you’re worried about Brenner, which means you have no clue,” Amanda said.

“No clue about what?” Walter demanded.

He frowned when Amanda laughed without explaining her comment. “It must be the lingering effect of the concussion. You’re making no sense,” he said.

“Understandable. I’m giddy because you just helped me win a bet. I told Daniel the woman you were crushing on was the woman at the restaurant, and that I was pretty sure she was the same one coming by work. If you’re getting that serious about Jane Fox, you need to introduce them. Daniel’s your best friend,” Amanda chastised, her attention going back to the computer screen to complete her task.

Walter shook his head as he walked out of the office to look for the woman who wasn’t in his life enough to introduce her to anyone yet. When he found Jane, she, Brenner, and the other two architects had their heads bent over a tiny computer tablet lying on top of the rock wall surrounding the resident swimming pool.

His elation to see Jane dressed in clothing that covered her from head to toe had his jaw relaxing. She was wearing a pair of her signature baggy pants today, with a white blouse straining across the front of her, and a sweater that was stretched to its limits while doing its best to help cover her breasts as well. He watched Brenner’s gaze lift from the tablet to Jane’s face as she talked, her hands illustrating whatever point she was making. The memory of holding her in the hospital while she cried in relief over him rushed in to offer reassurance. It helped him believe that Jane was interested in him very differently than she was in the accomplished architect.

“Hey—geo thermal pools dug yet?” Walter joked, his heartbeat accelerating at Jane’s instant, happy smile when she looked up and saw him. The woman could excite him with a glance.

Brenner walked around the others and held out a hand. “Good to see you, Mr. Graham. Jane told us what happened. How are you doing?”

“Much better—thanks,” Walter answered, thoughtful as his gaze moved from Brenner to Jane and back. “Call me Walter. Mr. Graham is my father. And my grandfather. They love that formal stuff, but I’m not into it. So has Jane been keeping things going?”

Brenner smiled broadly and nodded. “Yes. You have a great partner there. The only thing lacking is your approval of a plan. Jane insisted we not commit any of them to paper until you’d seen the workups. There are actually three to choose from.”

Walter nodded, not amazed at how much had gotten done without him. Or at least not amazed now that he knew Jane had been there all along.  “Great. I’m excited. Can I see them now?”

“Sure,” Brenner said with a smile, his head inclining toward the group.

Walter walked over, deliberately standing behind Jane and as close as he could get to her pants covered rear. Grateful he’d worn his jeans today, he bumped her gently from behind. Her nervous grunt and surprised scoot back against him had him grinning and rubbing her arm in mock apology. Harrison would have said he was marking his territory so the other males would know how things were. That was as good an explanation as any. What he really wanted was to turn her around and kiss her until she was moaning in his arms.

“You are amazing, lady. Thanks for taking care of things while I was out,” Walter said softly, peering over Jane’s shoulder at what was on the screen.

“No problem, Walter. See what you think of this,” Jane said, cursing her suddenly shaky fingers as she swiped the screens back to the beginning of the last plan they had drawn up. She had let Brenner have free rein to keep him occupied, but also so there would be some comparison with the more moderate ones.

Review: "My Today" by HJ Bellus

My Today
My Way Series, Book Two
By: HJ Bellus

Lacey’s Story…

Covering up pain is easy. It’s keeping it tucked away that’s hard. I’ve always needed the cover of tattoos to hide the nasty past that leached its way into me, tainting me beneath my skin. Not the shiny, trendy tats, but the ugly broken kind, meant to keep the world at bay. If they weren’t enough, then my piercings, foul mouth and crazy hair usually did the trick. Life had taught me to never follow the rules, because when you do, you get burned.

That philosophy served its purpose, until I met someone who turned my life upside down. Milly, the little hoochie, stormed into my life and changed everything with her undying faith in me, her love and her shitty coffee concoctions. I found a family in Milly, and her sexy farm boy, Cree. She accepted me without hesitation, and never ran from the dark and dangerous secrets that I harbored. My new family loved me unconditionally, with their showers of sprinkles and impromptu dance parties.

My life was perfectly imperfect until Tripp and his crazy-ass ideas of princesses. Our relationship is what most would describe as fuel meeting fire. We were both hell bent on burning each other to the ground. Tripp, fresh out of rehab, moved in with Milly and Cree to try and make a new life for himself. Tripp, the sexy as hell, charismatic beast, soon became one of my best friends. We shared our love of ice cream and tattoos as we blazed our own path that could only lead to a beautiful train wreck. The only question left is, will we set the countryside ablaze with our hot tempers and foul mouths, or will we paint our own happy ending filled with all the gushy shit normal people crave?

"My Today"

This story isn't about overcoming what happens to you in life. It's about accepting it and finding the strength to move on. It's about believing your worthy of happiness no matter the circumstances.

Lacey has been through a hell that no one could even imagine. She has lived her life with no apologies and made herself feel even less worthy of love in the process. When Lacey is given the opportunity to have a happily ever after she will have to make some very hard decisions. Just how much can a person take? Who or what is she willing to forgive?

When she meets Tripp, he is just as screwed up as she is, but he is a gorgeous screw up. Tripp is the one man who makes her want to try, try to be loved, try to be normal, try to heal. Tripp wants to try, but he has his own demons that own him. Can he give Lacey the love he thinks she deserves without the demons returning?
"My Now and Forever"
Milly's life is the type of tale that nightmare are made of. She was born to addicts that didn't want a child and could care less about her. Her Poppy raised her when her parents took off and he died when she was young.

Never feeling that she deserved much, she married a man who would turn to adultery and the only thing keeping her with him was his mother who in turn became the mother she never had. Milly has many scars that need to heal, but she won't do it in a typical fashion. Instead, she creates a bucket list and she's on a mission to find a new town, a new life, and a new sense of self.

When she sees Cree the first time, she's struck by his looks. When she repeatedly runs into him the attraction builds and when she finds out he has a daughter she thinks that it's a lost cause. A man like him surely has a wife, right?

Both book 1 and book 2 in this series will put you on an emotional roller coaster. The girls and the relationship they share in these books is nothing short of hilarious. They are all desperately and deeply damaged, but love each other openly. They become sister that are closer than blood. They need each other to survive.

I love that the men are genuinely concerned for the women, but they are vulnerable themselves, having their own problems. They don't pull off the "alpha male" instead they become a best friend, lover, and confidant. You can't get anymore real than these stories. I'm uber excited to read Willow's story next.

These books are 5 STAR addictive reads.
You won't want to put the book down! These women are sassy and hysterical. Be ready for mouths that could make sailors blush and tales of abuse that make the most hardened heart feel sad. These girls have overcome their situations the only way they knew how. They live how they love and that's with a fierce intensity that most people wouldn't understand. I'll be stalking the author now for book 3 to come out in Spring 2014.

“How weird of a couple we are.  I’m short and plump, you are a tall, sexy Beast.  We are both way beyond repair.”

“I think it’s pretty damn sexy, if you ask me.”

“Really?  Of course you would…you are a typical horn dog.”

“Lacey, I really like you.  There is something about you that makes me want to have you all to myself.”

“You better only see me or I’d have to cut a bitch.”

Review: "Saved By a Rake" by Em Taylor

Saved by a Rake Tour Banner

Title – Saved by a Rake
Author – Em Taylor
Genre – Regency Romance (Historical)
Publication Date – November 22, 2013
Cover Artist – Veronica Fernandez

Saved by a Rake - Book Cover

When Lady Rebecca Eversley is left ravished by the Earl of Newthorpe and facing ruination, she has the choice to point her pretty little nose in the air and face the gossips of the Ton or scurry off to the country to live out her life as an old maid. When she meets Lord Daniel Ramsey, a notorious rake, she decides on the former course of action.

Daniel has been given an ultimatum, marry before his father dies or lose the majority of his inheritance money. Rebecca seems the perfect candidate, especially once rumours about her start to circulate in the drawing rooms of Mayfair.

When Newthorpe is found dead on the morning of their wedding, the people they care about find themselves suspects in the case. Who murdered Newthorpe and can Rebecca ever get over what he did to her?

When Lady Rebecca goes to the home of the Earl of Newthrope she thinks she is looking at the home that could be hers if she accepts his proposal. What she doesn't know is that he is about to do the unimaginable and she will be forever ruined in the eyes of the Ton. Knowing that she did nothing wrong she will not cower and hide, but as the rumors spread she is second guessing what she must do.

Lord Daniel Ramsey is best friends with Lady Rebecca's brother, James. When James is uncertain of how to deal with the situation he confides in Daniel. Daniel is in a tight spot himself and Rebecca may just be the answer to what ails him. As he gets to Rebecca more and more she just may be perfect for him. Can they overcome the problems of the Ton and a murder to have a happily ever after and put the nightmare of what happened behind them.

This book is just what you want in a regency romance. It's descriptions are very time appropriate and the interaction between the characters is excellent. The story is woven flawlessly making you feel like you are a part of the story yourself. Rebecca is trying to overcome so much and make the best of the situation she finds herself in not of her own fault. Daniel is the perfect man in this story. He is kind, considerate, and the best friend a guy could have.

This book is a 5 STAR piece.
You'll feel like you've went back in time to the Ton of old England enjoying all of their gossipy glitzy ways.

As his lips briefly touched hers, the carriage jolted, pushing him closer to her. He caught her around the waist to ensure she did not bounce off the seat, then, without thinking, covered her mouth with his.
He noted a moment’s hesitation from her before she moved her lips and reached up to tangle her gloved fingers in his curls. Tentatively she touched her tongue against his, causing him to stifle a groan. He had been without a woman for over a month and now his pretty little wife had her arms around him, kissing him as if she had done it a thousand times. She was a quick learner as she explored his mouth with her tongue, pressing herself closer to him.
Devil take it. He had been struggling all day to stop himself becoming aroused. Her wedding gown had been low cut and her stays showed her breasts off perfectly. He had been distracted throughout the service and the wedding breakfast as images of disrobing her later had flitted through his mind. He wanted to see those breasts again.
He unfastened the three buttons on her pelisse, peeling the material away to her side, then pulled out of the kiss and began to pepper light kisses along her jawline. God, he wanted her, and he was most definitely aroused now.
He kissed her neck and was about to place his hand over that beautiful inviting orb, when he sensed her tensing. He pulled away slowly, tugging the material of her pelisse back over her. When he looked into her eyes, they were bright with confusion, passion and fear, all clearly warring within her. He cursed himself for being too impatient. Then he cursed Newthorpe for what he had done and could not help thinking that death was too good for the blaggard.
“No. That’s the only word you ever have to say and I will stop,” he said simply.
“I am sorry, my lord. I just expected some time before… well I expected to wait until we were in the coaching inn tonight.”
“Yes, of course. It was very impatient of me. I beg your forgiveness.”
Rebecca nodded and looked out the window.
The streets of London rushed by as they headed for the Great North Road. He studied the view out of the other window, and they sat in silence for a long time. Eventually Rebecca spoke in a small voice which sounded as if she was on the verge of tears.
“I fear I will not make you a very good wife if a mere kiss frightens me.”
He turned and took her hand in his. He wanted her to be comfortable and not think he was going to pounce on her and ravish her at any given opportunity.
“I have no doubt that you will make a wonderful wife, Rebecca. You just need time and patience and I have an abundance of both.”
She turned large, tear-filled eyes towards him. “You should take a mistress as soon as we reach Scotland.”
He could not possibly have heard correctly. She was giving him permission to have a mistress? Surely not. But her mouth was set in a firm line as if she had made up her mind. A stab of hurt hit him. She thought of him as a rake who would be unfaithful.
He pursed his lips and considered her. What should he do? He wanted to rail at her and tell her he had no intention of being unfaithful. He had taken vows only a few hours previously and yet now she was giving him permission to break them. But maybe the idea of him having a mistress brought her comfort. She was clearly terrified of intimacy between a husband and wife.
“We shall discuss it once we reach Scotland, my lady. I have no wish to think beyond our present journey.”
“Do you not see that I can only ever tolerate the marriage bed for the sake of giving you an heir,” she wailed, pulling her hand away from his. “He ruined me in more ways than you can ever know.”
“You are only ruined if you allow him that power. A skilful lover could make you feel very different about certain aspects of a marriage.”
“Well, I have heard enough tales to know that you are a skilful lover, Lord Ramsey. But I think you should save it for your mistresses.” Her tone was almost venomous but he ignored it, knowing that it was fear that drove her.
She turned her head to look out of the window again. He was at a complete loss. She thought him almost as bad as Newthorpe. Well, not quite but she did not think he would be faithful. A long silence stretched out between them as he considered what to say to her. Her back was rigid, and she swiped at her cheek with one gloved hand.
“What he did to you…”
“What he did has destroyed me, and I am not sorry that he is dead. I wish I had been the one to kill him.”
“Please, Rebecca…”
She burst into tears and fished in her reticule for a handkerchief, he presumed. He held his out to her and with a large sob she accepted it. He untied her bonnet and threw it onto the seat opposite before gathering her in his arms.
She tried to move out of his grip but this time he held firm, knowing that she would accept his comfort, which she did, weeping as she buried her face in his coat.
As her sobs turned into sniffles, which turned into silence then light snuffles of sleep, he held her and wondered how he was going to help his beautiful young wife over her fear of physical love.

Em was born and brought up in the Central Belt of Scotland and still lives there. She was told as a child she had an over active imagination—as if that is a bad thing. She’s traded her dreams of owning her own island, just like George in the Famous Five to hoping to meet her own Mr Darcy one day. But her imagination remains the same.

Unfortunately, Em was put off reading and writing by school and although she rediscovered her love of reading many years ago, she only tried her hand at writing again in 2011. After a year of writing fan fiction, she wrote an original short story for an anthology. This was followed up with two more shorts and 4 novella length books, all published under a pen name. Having fallen in love with a new sub-genre, courtesy of books by Mary Balogh and Lynsay Sands, she decided to try her hand at her new favourite genre for reading—regency.

Having bitten the bullet, she feels she has found her home in the 19th century, and it does give her an excuse to watch Colin Firth in a pair of buff breeches and riding books ad infinitum.

Review: "Dangerous Depths" by Karen Amanda Hooper

Title:  Dangerous Depths

Series: The Sea Monster Memoirs #2

Author: Karen Amanda Hooper

Publish Date: November 20, 2013

Hell hath no fury like a selkie separated from his true love.
The gate to the sea creature realm is finally open. Rownan assumes the worst is behind him when he returns home after years of waiting to be reunited with his wife, Vienna. Only to find out that Vienna didn’t wait for him. She traveled to the evil realm of Harte years ago, hoping the legend of another gateway to Earth’s realm was real, but she was never heard from again. Rownan claimed he’d go through hell to be with Vienna, and now he must prove it.
Yara wanted to bask in the glow of her happily ever after in the magical realm of Rathe. She planned to explore Medusa and Poseidon’s world and dive deeper into her relationship with Treygan, but as the new leader of Rathe, her powers are needed to save more than one member of her own kind. Treygan vowed to always be Yara’s guardian, but long ago he also swore to go any lengths to protect his brother Rownan. Now, he must fulfill his promise to both of them.
Rownan, Yara, and Treygan are about to put their lives and souls at risk by traveling to the most dangerous realm of the worlds. Love should conquer all, but no one has ever conquered Harte.
These books are unlike anything I've ever read before.
"Tangled Tides"
We start with Yara helping her Uncle during a hurricane when a stranger comes to help. She awakens to a new world, ripped from her boyfriend Rownan and the life she's always known. Things aren't always what they seem. Suddenly no one in her life are who she thought they were and she has a destiny that leads to an unfulfilled prophecy. The triple eighteen is coming and lucky her, she's the solution...or is she?
Treygan is sent to help Yara, but he's not expecting someone so stubborn or for her to have a boyfriend. How can you be attracted to someone yet driven insanely nuts by them at the same time? Will he ever get her to appreciate the gift she's been given or to trust him that not everything she was told was the truth?
"Dangerous Depths"
The gate is opened, but Vienna isn't in Rathe. She has tried to go another route to find Rownan, Harte. This leads Rownan, Yara, and Treygan into the depths of hell to see if they can find Vienna before it's too late not only for her, but them as well. They will be put to the test in every way imaginable. Ghosts of the pasts, demons, and every scary facet you can imagine they face.
Will they make it out alive or will all die for the ultimate thing worth fighting for...
I am not new to paranormal books, but I am new to mermaid books. This isn't even a typical mermaid book though, as we have sirens, selkies, and gorgons. There are so many different species and mixtures it keeps everything interesting. You are guaranteed not to get bored with this series. It is more adventure than romance and what romantic situations there are happen to be very PG. This makes it an excellent YA book. It took me a little longer to read than my normal book as I was trying to understand the new "species" that I hadn't read about previously, but even at that I was able to read each book in about two days. I now have a new addiction to add to my many other book loves.
Treygan is a wonderful character. He is very strong and caring. It was nice that he was vulnerable without being insecure. Yara is awesome from the start though I wanted to smack her for being so gullible in the first book. Of course, she becomes even more kickass at the end of book one and continues as only she can into book 2. Even through physical torture she still is such a true friend that she will carry on to help Rownan after he had betrayed her than helped her. Yes, Rownan is a very complex man, er...selkie. I'm not sure I ever know what to expect from him.
This book is 5 stars and perfect for teens or adults.
If you love traveling to new world and learning a little about the Gods, this is the series for you.

The star-flowers blossomed everywhere. I glided toward a thick, curved branch that dipped below the surface. “Can I touch them?”
“Sure. The stardust in the center is warm, but not enough to burn.” He plucked one and held it between us.
I touched its silky petals while inhaling. “They smell so good.”
“I pictured this place every time I smelled you.” He tucked the flower behind my ear and it warmed the side of my head. “You always reminded me of here—of home, and star-flowers that smell like heaven.”
He looked gorgeous, with his wet hair all slicked back and his intense eyes staring at me with a million beautiful twinkling flowers behind him. I wanted to tell him how deeply in love with him I had fallen, how I couldn’t stand the thought of ever being without him, and how scared I was about what might happen to us in Harte. But those thoughts felt too heavy for such a magical place. Instead, I teased him. “You’ve become a total sap.”
He laughed. “It’s disturbing. I toss and turn every night, wondering how I let myself get this bad. I finally understand what it’s like to lose sleep because you can’t stop thinking about someone.”
I mocked the words he had told me just weeks ago when I first became a mermaid. “Merfolk don’t sleep.”
“Touché.” He pulled me against him. “But we do rest, and even when I’m resting, I never stop thinking about you.”

Song list in chronological order of when they take place in the story.

3.) Drifting- Plumb feat. Dan Haseltine (Yara & Nixie to Rownan--another way)

4.) If I Lose Myself- One Republic (Treygan to Yara the morning of their trip)

5.) The Sea- Morcheeba (Traveling and arriving)

6.) Storm- Lifehouse (Rownan to Vienna when he’s alone in Harte)

7.) I Want You Here- Plumb (Vienna on her beach with the driftwood)

9.) Little Talks- Of Monsters and Men (Yara & Treygan in the last half of the book)

10.) Together Again- Evanescence (Yara when she becomes separated from Treygan)

11.) Hazy- Rosi Golan feat. William Fitzsimmons (Vienna & Rownan duet)

12.) Down- Jason Walker feat. Molly Reed  (This one tugs ta my heartstrings. I picture each character: Rownan, Yara, Treygan, and Nixie, on their own singing this song. It flashes between each of them during seemingly hopeless times during their fight to get out.)

13.) My Last Breath- Evanescence (Nixie & Yara)

*BONUS SONG: Hero- David Crosby & Phil Collins (This was a song from my TANGLED TIDES playlist. It’s an oldie, but it was so perfect as a song that Rownan would sing about Treygan. Right down to the “when the hero kills the maiden with his kiss” line. This song still gives me goose bumps when I listen to it.)

Karen has been making up stories for as long as she can remember. Due to her strong Disney upbringing, she still believes in fairy tales and will forever sprinkle magic throughout all of her novels.
