Review & GIVEAWAY: "Unlikely Hero"/ Spotlight & GIVEAWAY: "Spitfire"/ Promo: "Love Me?"

Unlikely Hero Spotlight Banner

Erin never would have expected to fall in love. Never. Not with her past, and not with her fear. She never dates; she doesn't even allow herself friendships. She doesn’t trust her judge-of-character skills enough to allow anyone close...until Marcus. With him, a deep connection happens in spite of the walls she's so carefully constructed around herself. Marcus uses his self-confessed rage to fuel every part of his life. He survived the severe abuse of his childhood and learns to harness all the leftover anger into MMA fighting. His rage takes a rest, however, the moment he experiences Erin’s presence. Marcus dares to make the step that leads to love, one with the potential to heal
them both.

Marcus's childhood was one of pure hell from the age of 8 until he left his father's home at 18. Taking his sister with him was the only way to save them both. It was an easy decision to leave, but their life afterwards didn't come easily.  Marcus needed an outlet and when Bill found him, he discovered MMA.
For Erin, life was like a story book. The perfect cookie cutters parents, typical household, and dreams of college and success.  It only took one asshole, one party, and one moment in time to bring everything to a screeching holt. She closed off and living her life became nothing more than going through the motions.
When Marcus and Erin come together, it's a sharing of wounds, a tying of souls, and healing future that they both desperately need.
This book is full of hope,
full of love,
and full of strength.
If you want a love story of overcoming heavy obstacles this is the read for you.  The love and trust that is built between Marcus and Erin is nothing short of amazing.  They have both survived not only the hell that others have placed on them, but also the hell that they have let their minds bring on them.  This read isn't a fast paced, rip through the book story. This one is full of emotion and needs to be read at a slower pace.  It's a great and fulfilling read. I'm curious to see what happens between Scott and Marcus's sister.
I give this book 4.5 stars and await the next books in the series.

ProfilePicI absolutely love to write. Seriously. I smile darn near the entire time. I'm a total word-nerd. But even more, I love a good love story. I reread the first kiss a few times before I read on...even in my own books. That moment gets me every time no matter how often I revisit that beautiful connection. I dive into every story to the point where I have so many fictional boyfriends that I can't keep track of them all. In the world of reality, I have a loving and tolerant husband who smiles and rolls his eyes every time I tell him about my latest fictional love affair. I have two personality-rich pre-teen boys who keep me on my toes. I have a psychotic Golden Retriever (I was told those don't exist...) and a cat that rules our house. I used to be the queen. Our regal feline has usurped my throne and demoted me to Prime Minister. I studied English/Journalism at Miami University in Ohio, have a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Dayton and I spent five years teaching even more personality-rich pre-teens. For some sick reason, I actually enjoyed teaching junior high. Now as a stay-at-home mom, I'm clinging to that status by throwing my hat in the author's ring and hoping I get to keep it there.

For the first time in his life, he had the urge to take a woman in his arms and just hold her for hours. He wanted the warmth of his body to melt five years of ice from hers.
He would take as long as needed to break through the depth of the glacier she had formed around herself. He wouldn't let her go until she felt soft, warm, and safe in his arms. If she'd let him. He knew exactly what he needed to write that night.
I will never do anything to hurt you or break your trust and I know I’m probably scaring you right now for asking, but you haven't let anyone in. I think you need that, even if you're scared of it. I want you trust me. I want to help. You’re safe with me. I'm strong enough to protect you. Will you let me?
~Marcus Walker
Suddenly those notes that brought her close to him seemed like a path to her undoing. She had been so safe and closed away from people for so long, she didn’t even realize she had let him in as far as she had. Sharing herself had been too easy in that book, but now look what she had done! She was open and exposed and he wanted to meet her outside of the safety of her journal.
The thought of meeting him terrified her — but not because he scared her. That wasn’t the problem. She was so scared of being vulnerable again. She had worked so damn hard to keep that from happening. And she was scared because she wanted to meet him. Allowing herself the potential to feel something, even something good, made her want to shrink back into the chasm and stay there.

Love Between the Sheets & Lookin’ for a Bookin’

“Anytime. Great to meet you Palmer!”

“You too, Phillip.” The sky opened up and the giant droplets struck the ground. Palmer squealed and tried to cover her head.

Brant grabbed her hand and this time she didn’t complain as they started running toward the truck. Palmer missed avoiding a puddle and stepped clumsily in it splashing cool water up on her jeans. She tried to hold her purse over her head but the contents spilled out on the now wet ground.

Palmer stopped running to gather her belongings that were all rolling in different directions.

“Save yourself! I got this!” Brant yelled to Palmer as he scrambled around grabbing lipstick containers, earplugs, and a box of Kleenex.

He held out the now soaking wet box of Kleenex and shrugged his shoulders. “Keep it?”

Palmer stood and started to laugh whole-heartedly. Brant was on his knees and soaked so that his wet shirt clung to his body. He gazed up at her and couldn’t help but laugh too as she was standing in front of him dripping wet.

Her hair hung in wet blonde strips around her face and her mascara started to create rivers down her cheeks. She bent over and clutched her stomach as she continued to laugh.

“Who looks like the drowned cat lady now?” Brant teased.

“Okay, stop. My stomach hurts from laughing so much.” Palmer looked over to the eight feet that separated her from the truck. She held her hand out for Brant and he slipped his warm hand into hers.

“I guess there’s really no need to run now since we’re soaked, huh?” He opened the truck door for Palmer so she could climb in.

Once they were warm and dry inside the cab, Brant took his thumb and wiped the streak of mascara off Palmer’s cheek.

“So, do you have a hair dryer in that purse too?” Brant joked.

“Ha ha. You wish. Whew! Look at us! We’re soaked and I’m freezing.”

Brant clicked on the heat and held his hand up to feel the warm air that started to blow through the vent. He reached behind the back of the seat and pulled out a sweatshirt. As he draped the warm, dry shirt over Palmer’s shoulders, she leaned in closer to him.

“Thank you,” she muttered quietly.

Brant took a wet strand of hair and tucked it behind her ear. “Anytime.” His eyes flicked down to her pink rose bud mouth and he instinctively licked his lips.

A familiar churning began in Palmer’s belly as she gazed up at Brant through her wet eyelashes.

Brant slowly moved closer to her and sweetly set his mouth on hers. His warm tongue invaded her mouth and ran along the edge of her teeth. A small moan escaped her lips as she matched his movements. She reached her arms up and entwined them around his neck, pulling him closer to her. His warmth and sweetness poured into her in the form of a kiss. She greedily sucked and twirled her tongue around his, desperate for more.

When he broke away she was breathless. She gulped at the air as she felt a flame lick through her body.

“I hope that was okay. I should’ve asked first,” Brant whispered.

“Trust me, it was better than okay. Feel free to do that again and often,” Palmer glanced at him and grinned sheepishly.

Brant laughed, “Well, good to know. How about we get something to eat? Are you hungry?”

“I’m starving.” But not for food.
