This is the third book of the Deverell Series and it is the last book of Merry and Varian. This book picks up where the last one left off. Merry is now pregnant with Varian's child and they are heading for dangerous territory. Varian sticks his foot in his mouth so often it's a wonder that it ever comes out. He loves Merry fiercely, but doesn't tell her as such. She being a young and inexperienced woman thinks the only way to know his feelings for sure is for him to say the exact words, "I Love You". Sometimes it's the little things that cause the biggest problems.
The couple have to come to terms with the upcoming parenthood, being newly weds, and the outside dangers that are still very real. They are in lions den at Merry's family home. Lucien and Andrew are investigating Varian, but to what end is not known. Rensdale is still on the loose and there are always Morgan's enemies as well.
This book has many different elements to the story. It evolves quickly, but thoroughly not leaving any detail out. The couples undying affection for each other is that of fairy tales, but they deal with very real life aspects also. The epilogue was spectacular. It to me hints at what we can expect in future books. I can't wait to read about Indy and seriously hope for a book of Kat, maybe even Andrew. The way the problems were dealt with was fitting.
This is easily one of the best historical romance series I've read. I had not read a book from Susan Ward before this series, but she's got a new fan now. Truly I hope this series continues to go one with the rest of the family. The Merrick's are a bit stuffy at times, but you know they have to have a bit of wild beyond just Merry and the Deverell's are excitement with a capitol E. This is a group of books to not be missed!
I've written 26 books in 25 years. I write contemporary romance novels about messed up rich girls with perfect looking lives & naughty little souls and the hot mercurial men they take captive...and on occasion messed up rich girls from exciting periods in US and British history, and the poor Lords and Pirates they hold under their spell.
