Promo Tour Review: "Falling Stars" by J.L. Brooks

We are so excited for this Promo Event for J.L Brooks' Falling Stars Volume #1.

Drugs, Sex, & EDM

It had all the makings of a perfect plot, and for bestselling author Lila Keaton-it was a hedonistic past she kept hidden far away. Many nights were spent crossing the velvet rope, dancing until dawn and bedding one of the worlds biggest DJ’s, Hunter Michaels AKA Arial Assault.

When Lila’s agent uncovers her thrilling secret, it appears as if nothing is off limits when it comes to pitching the story, whether Lila wants to tell it or not. Despite knowing her reluctance is career suicide, she cannot bring herself to open her heart once more to the man who nearly destroyed it.

Given the opportunity to escape her predicament, Hunter attempts to reconcile the pain he has caused, and rekindle the passion that was abandoned long ago. When a series of events causes history to repeat itself, Lila sets off unaccompanied through out the west to test her boundaries with the sensual and surreal, and ultimately come face to face with the only thing that can keep her from falling.

Lila is a best selling author with a wild side. It's a side that she hasn't let loose in quite a while. She write erotica, but doesn't allow herself to live it. After taking a risk and writing a book that was different from the rest she finds that her readers fell in love with this book, The Little Traveler. The problem is the book took her creative need from her and she no longer has the urge to write. When her publishes gets nosy she finds the perfect thing for Lila to write about. Lila won't sell her soul to make her publisher happy and that sets a course that brings her past to the present and possibly her future.

The interactions between Hunter and Lila were heartfelt, but truly he's a bastard. There is a reason things ended the way they did when they were young and he didn't contact Lila.  Of course, old habits die hard and when love has been felt, it's hard to let go. He sets Lila on a course looking to free herself from the restraints she has unknowingly placed.

Lila is seriously confused in every aspect of her life and finds herself at the crossroads. She is such a strong character though. She feels emotions deeply, but can't let them out. This has closed her off from everything and most everyone, especially the opposite sex. It mostly stems from never getting over Hunter and the betrayal.

Lila goes through an enormous amount in a very short time. I'm in love with Grant and with every extra bit of info we find out about him I fall a little for him. Seriously....Just WOW!  There are some very steamy scenes in this book. Have ice cold water handy. Let's just say our girl Lila is a little kinky and loves a good romp. I could have fell for Lorenzo, but now I have suspicions.

The ending was not what I was expecting at all. It's a total cliff-hanger that will leave you cussing a blue streak. Not just because of the cliff-hanger either. Sneaky bastards and their devious ways. I am ready to see what it's all about now. Alas, I don't know when the next book is due out.

This is a complete 5 star book. It's full of finding one's own journey in life. It's taking risks and accepting the consequences. It's accepting the let downs along with the strength you gain from them. J.L. Brooks has a wonderful start to what could become a fantastic series in this book.

Book Blitz: "Billionaires In Disguise: Lizzy" by Blair Babylon

NOW AVAILABLE
“Breaking Rules”
Episode 3 of Billionaires in Disguise: Lizzy
Lizzy’s journey into the darkest parts of love continues with Episode 3, “Breaking Rules.”
Theo has five days to save Lizzy.
When Lizzy’s Master Mannix goes away on a business trip, he arranges for her to serve another Dom, who turns out to be Theo Valencia.
Theo’s plots to rescue Lizzy from Mannix haven’t worked. For five days, she will stay at Theo’s house, five days of conversations, of glances, of touches, but he thinks it won’t be enough. For two days, Theo will stick to his ethics, but after that, Theo is more than willing to break all his rules, even if he ends up with a broken heart.
Lizzy was devastated when she realized that Mannix considers her to be just another interchangeable sub even though he told her he loved her. Heartbroken and numb, she doesn’t even protest when he gives her away while he goes on a business trip, even when he gives her to Theo, who seems reluctant to take her. Running away seems impossible because sports reporters are stalking her dorm, asking when she is going back to Pajari Gym. The Devilhouse is in ruins. Someone attacks Theo’s house, maybe Russian hit men sent by her parents to scare her into going back to New Jersey. Should Lizzy seduce Theo as Mannix instructed her to do and prove her love for her Dom, or should she stay out of Theo’s bed as he commanded, or will she run into the cold night yet again?

Theo was a prosecuting lawyer, as sweet as his caramel eyes, and insisted that he wasn't a Dom. When Theo messes up their budding relationship by prying into her past, Mr. Smolder makes a play for Lizzy. When Mannix tells her that he loves her, far too soon, and when his proclivities take a turn for the disturbing, Lizzy begins to realize that she’s falling too far, too fast, and too hard.

Review

Michael Gallo has a secretive side. It's one no one knows exists, not even himself. This side suddenly appears when Mia walks through the door to the County Hospital ER. She's no fool though and a smooth talker with a pretty face isn't something she needs in her life. That is until she meets him again.

Third times the charm, right?

Enter a crazy Tammy...
She's off, seriously off. The scenes with her had me ready to wet myself laughing.  That is most scenes, because truly there were some that were just scary.

This was seriously a romantic book. I never expected it. There was drama, laughter, romance, action, and fighting. It doesn't get much better than that. If you read Throttle Me you know the Gallo's are an interesting and gorgeous bunch. They keep it real and usually are funny as hell.

I absolutely loved the ending. The Epilogue was a great addition. I liked that this story included some of Suzy and Joe's future. It's not all about Michael and Mia. The book interweaved all the characters and it's the perfect continuation of the series.

This book is a definite 5 stars. I love the series so far and can't wait for the next book which is Izzy's. The snippet looks great!

Hook Me - Excerpt

His hand rested against my back, pulling me closer, and I became lost in his kiss. The feel of his rough thumb pad as he stroked my face made my body feel on fire. The sound of the rain beating against the truck, the thunder rumbling outside, and our breath frantic and quick, filled the cab.
I climbed in his lap as he gripped my ass and pulled my bottom to him. I could feel his hardness against me and I ached to feel him inside.
I couldn’t deny myself any longer.
“Take me home, Michael. Stay with me tonight.” I didn’t even have to think about it.
I wanted him.
The light touches, commanding kisses, and the feel of his hardness had me wanting more, needing it.
“Mia, I don’t know if that’s a good idea,” he whispered against my lips.
“I want to feel your skin against me. Remind me what it feels like to be loved, Michael. Show me the beauty and make me forget.” I held myself up and stare d in his eyes. “Please,” I begged.
His fingers swept against my cheek and I leaned into his touch, closing my eyes. “I’ll do anything you ask,” he said.

Her feet were firmly planted in suburban reality and she had no reason to believe her life would be anything but that of a typical teenager. That is until tonight, when Cassie saw something that no human was ever supposed to see; in the blink of an eye she was thrown into the world of the Light and Dark Elves. He comes from a realm where light and dark have fought for millennia. He is of a race known to humans only in myths and legends. The darkness that lives inside him is a part of both who and what he is and it makes him the most gifted spy and assassin in the history of his time. He is Triktapic, assassin, spy, most feared of the Dark Elves. Now, in the midst of his King’s complicated plans to expand the Dark Elves’ holdings into the mortal realm, for the first time, Trik finds his loyalties divided. For no Elf, Dark or Light, can turn away from their Chosen. Unbeknownst to the mortal realm, the battle between Light and Dark is being brought to their doorstep. The only one who can keep it at bay holds darkness in his heart like a lover, and the one who can sway that heart must decide if she can look beyond his black past, beyond his evil nature and see the man he is destined to be. One of the Goddesses is on a quest to tilt the scale of power to her side. The other will never let it happen, even if it means kicking Jatred and Jasmira's love to the curb. They are trapped in an ancient Amulet in order to protect the stability of the world. But the Universe has a mind of its own, and when the powers are unleashed, the forces of nature are disturbed; earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions shake the Earth. BOOK SYNOPSIS

When Lord James Eversley is accused of a murder he did not commit, he dresses up as his new brother-in-law’s footman and hitches a ride in their carriage out of town. When it seems they are no longer being followed he begins to relax until a minor accident causes them to stop at a shabby looking inn. As his “master” and his sister sip tea in the scruffy parlour, James comes face to face with Lady Anna, the woman who left him in the dead of night five years before and a familiar looking child.

Lady Anna has accepted her life as Mrs Johnstone, mother of four-year-old Viola, “wife” of Peter, the mentally ill former footman and land lady of a shabby inn on the Great North Road. Her plans for a love match with the handsome Lord Eversley were cruelly snatched away from her five years before. Her ruination means there is no opportunity to return to her family or the ton. When James turns up, dressed as a footman and demanding answers, Anna must decide whether to tell the truth.

James never stopped loving Anna and now he must learn what happened that fateful night that Anna left him heartbroken. With the truth out in the open, he must convince the love of his life to take a chance on him. He wants to marry her and restore her reputation among the aristocracy. But in Regency England reputations are easily lost and difficult to regain. Can Anna trust James enough to do what is right for Peter, despite his actions, her child and most importantly himself? Can James convince Anna to seek the help that Peter needs and return to the ton?

Lord Eversley has never forgotten Lady Anna. He stole her innocence and she stole his heart. While he was away on business she disappeared never to be seen again. With no explanation and a broken heart even five years later he has no closure, no want for another woman.

Lady Anna was taken. No one knows.  No one searched. They all believe she ran off with her footman, madly in love. If only that were the truth. Instead she lives as a married woman to a man/child and treads carefully every hour of the day. She prays for another life, but knows she must accept her lot and be thankful it isn't worse.

When Lord Ramsey comes with Lady Rebecca and she finds James in her Inn it's surreal. There are secrets he doesn't know. All will be revealed though. Choices have to be made. What will Lady Anna choose? Can deal with the consequences of the Ton?

James is a truly interesting character. He doesn't fit in with your typical bachelor of the Ton. He's sensitive, emotional, and cares not what others think. He'll make his choices and damn the consequences. This book shows a side to him that we didn't see in Saved by A Rake. He's a character that is truly easy to fall in love with.

Lady Anna has been through much, but I couldn't help that most was by her choice. She has had options, but took the easy way. This caused her misery. Though I felt sorry for her, I'm not sure that I actually liked her.

This story is full of passion, confusion, despair, and hope. James and Anna have wonderful chemistry though their communication causes problems. Both are head strong and tend cause problems where there need not be any. I couldn't find it in me to feel bad for Peter. Problems or no, he shouldn't have done the things he had.

I enjoyed the story and it took only a days time to read. The flow went well and there was just enough passion and turmoil to keep everything interesting. I loved the first book in the series and this book was wonderful as well. I hope to see more books about the other characters. I'd love to read Viola's story.

I give this book a solid 4 stars. It's a great regency read. The descriptions and time period are spot on as it whisks you away to another land and another way of life.

BookExcerpt

“Why did you leave?” he asked. “I...I... did not have a choice.” “Were you in love with him?” “No.” She should lie. She knew she should, but his light blue eyes seemed to bore holes into her very soul and she could not bear to hurt him further. She could not bear to have him think badly of her. “Then I do not understand why you left. Was it... was... God dammit.” He took a large gulp of his ale and looked around before leaning close. “Was it the bedding? I know you were an innocent and it must have hurt but...” “No.” She shook her head fervently. Could he really believe that the best night of her life had driven her from him? “That night... it was very special. You were wonderful and kind and caring. I could not have asked for a better lover the first time.” Relief washed over his countenance before he frowned. “Then why?” Should she tell him? Could she? “It is too complicated to explain, except to say that it was not my choice and it was not your fault.” He pushed his long fingers through his blond curls and stared into his ale. “Is he—the footman—still alive?” “Yes.” He looked into her eyes—the hope that had shone there moments before was gone. “So you are married.” “We never married.” “You live in sin?” “Yes. I refused to marry him—not even to give my daughter a name. I tell people I am Mrs Johnstone, but there are no legal documents and no marriage. Therefore, you can return to the ton, my lord, and tell them that Lady Anna Kingsley is a whore and has a bastard child.” Now perhaps he would leave her alone to her miserable life and find someone who would make a proper countess when his father died. She swallowed hard, forcing back the tears. Willed herself to stay strong. She only had to stay strong until the damned ostlers could help Lord Ramsey’s horse. “Shh! I will be returning to the ton to tell them no such thing. I wished you would tell me what actually happened, if for no other reason than to assuage my fear that it was something I did or said that drove you away. You said you have a daughter?” “Yes. Viola. She is a pretty little thing but can be quite precocious when she wants to be. She would have made a beautiful debutante when her time came.” “Mama. Who is this?” She turned to see Viola standing at her side and realised it had been the child who was tugging at her skirts.

**** James stared at the little girl standing next to Anna, tugging on the grey wool skirt. Blond hair, blue eyes and rosy cheeks that reminded him of Rebecca when she was small. She even had the little turn up in her nose that was identical to his sister’s. But, it could not be. This child could not be his? They had made love but once—or at least just one night. But he had not withdrawn as he knew he should. He had been too caught up in the moment—in their love. Had Anna fallen with child that one glorious night, how old would a child be? Three? No—four! Was this little girl four? He had no idea how large or small a child should be at the age of four. He did not come into contact with many children. But he did not have to ask her age. His sight told him that Viola was his as did something else…instinct perhaps? He schooled his features so they were unreadable. Years of training to be a gentleman, to show no outward emotion, were now paying dividends. “This is Lord Eversley, a friend of mine.” “Oh. Pleased to meet you Lord Evasey.” She bobbed a small curtsey, and he noted that she over extended her back leg a bit like the actors did in the theatre at the curtain call. It was very sweet. The child obviously did not meet many members of the aristocracy. Though it was just like Anna to have taught her daughter to act like a lady in preparation for meeting a viscount or even a duke. “Very pleased to meet you too, Viola.” She smiled dazzlingly at him. It really was like being taken back in time to when Rebecca was a child. “Mama, he’s awake. I heard him shouting.” “I see.” She turned to James. “I need to go just now. I have things that must be attended to.” Anna stood and looked like she was about to bob a curtsey but seemed to the think better of it, probably remembering he was supposed to be a footman. He watched her leave, Viola’s hand in hers. He had sired a daughter and all this time he never knew. He did not need Anna to tell him that Viola was his flesh and blood—he knew it with every fibre of his being. If he said it outright, would Anna lie? Could she lie about something as monumental as him having a child? Not the Anna he once knew. But she was harder now—more resilient. He saw it in her eyes. Even though he had sensed she had been on the edge of tears, he suspected Mrs Anna Johnstone did not cry very often. But he must allow Anna to tell him in her own time. There was a lot more to this than a silly lady having her head turned by a handsome footman. Was the person who had just woken the footman? Why had Viola looked unhappy when she had to announce the footman was awake? And why was Anna the one working in the taproom? He would find out, and he would not leave this place until he knew the whole truth and certainly he would not leave without his daughter.

AboutAuthor

Em was born and brought up in the Central Belt of Scotland and still lives there. She was told as a child she had an over active imagination--as if that is a bad thing. She's traded her dreams of owning her own island, just like George in the Famous Five to hoping to meet her own Mr Darcy one day. But her imagination remains the same.

Unfortunately, Em was put off reading and writing by school and although she rediscovered her love of reading many years ago, she only tried her hand at writing again in 2011. After a year of writing fan fiction, she wrote an original short story for an anthology. This was followed up with two more shorts and 4 novella length books, all published under a pen name. Having fallen in love with a new sub-genre, courtesy of books by Mary Balogh and Lynsay Sands, she decided to try her hand at her new favourite genre for reading--regency.

Having bitten the bullet, she feels she has found her home in the 19th century, and it does give her an excuse to watch Colin Firth in a pair of buff breeches and riding books ad infinitum.

Prologue

Jeremy Ellison sat on a dirty bed in an even dirtier motel room with his head in his hands, wondering how he ended up here. He’d had her; he was almost able to take the one thing Anthony currently wanted. After pulling himself from the water, he didn’t know what to do or where to go. This was a first for him. He’d lost everything. Everything. He had no laptop, no pictures, nowhere to go, and most importantly, no money.
Sighing, he reached over for the newspapers he had purchased, somewhere in there he’d find what he was looking for. Some old lady from the society pages who had more money than brains. Some way to make a quick buck so that he’d be able to move on to bigger and better things. It was a scam he had perfected over the years. Money and items that he could quickly sell would be his. It was what had afforded him the lifestyle he loved so much, and giving the old ladies a thrill, well, it was the least he could do.
He wanted to scream when he saw his picture and the story about him, staring back. A smaller photo of Anthony and Evie mocked him. They were coming for him; they were all coming for him. Pounding his fists on the bed, his head shook back and forth, his mouth opened in a silent scream.
~*~
She sat in the grimy motel room clutching her wig in her trembling hands, staring at the room across the parking lot where she saw him enter a while ago. She never expected to come across him after all this time. It took everything she had not to knock on the door and send the bastard straight to hell. She knew he deserved more pain and putting a bullet in him would be too quick. Now that she knew where he was, she could plan. She had to have a plan. Everything had to be in order. The ending would have to be perfect, exactly what he deserved.
Her hands shook as she thought of what she’d have to do to him, but she hadn’t come this far to back out now.
Glancing at her watch, she knew she had to hurry, she wanted to get back to her files on Jeremy. Now that she knew exactly where he was she needed to make sure everything was up to date and she had all the information on him. Slowly she put the wig back on and walked out of the room into the sunlight. She casually dropped her purse near his car where she attached a tracking device. Picking up her things, she put them back in her purse, then stood up and walked away, never looking back.

Review

The Hunter has become the Hunted, though there is a new player in the game. While the trio of women fear for their safety and their man are continually making plans there is another who is ahead of them. Revenge is on everyone's minds, but who will be the one to act on it?

Kat and Jackson had something special once, but the past is working against them. They make a beautiful couple. It's hard to imagine the overprotective brother becoming the character that he is with Kat. They compliment each other so well, but they aren't the exciting couple that Lexi and Noah or Evie and Anthony were.

While this book is where everything finally ends and the ends come together, it didn't have the excitement that the other books did. Believe me though, this book was enlightening. Jeremy is even more twisted than most could imagine. This book was more about strategy and coping with the feeling of helplessness where the others were trying to outrun the inevitable. The game fiercely changed in this book.

I give this book 4 stars. It was a good ending to the series. This one is darker and more gruesome than the others. It lacked the light heartedness that the troublesome trio brought to the other books. This story was very visual as were all the others bringing scenes to life that will forever be hard to forget. M. Stratton is an excellent author and I look forward to her many other books that are in the works.

About the Author

M. Stratton is an International Amazon bestselling author in the romantic suspense and mystery suspense categories for her debut novel After the Storm. She is a self-proclaimed dork that loves to make people laugh and can trip over nothing. Her inner rock star is always on stage performing to a sold out crowd but is quiet and shy on the outside.

She lives with her husband and son in Arizona, which is a big difference from where she grew up north of Chicago Illinois. As an only child she learned to tell herself stories to make the long winters go by quicker while dreaming of summer vacations. Now as an adult she still makes up stories to pass the time, but now she writes them down to share with other people.

When not writing you can find M. watching football (Go Bears!), NASCAR, or classic movies, watching her husband and father restore classic cars, and seeing who can be sillier, her or her son, and of course reading.
