Title: Be My December
Author: Rachel Brookes
Release Date: August 28th
Genre: Contemporary Romance
I knew the exact moment I’d become a ‘yes’ girl.
, a cold winter’s night, four years ago.
The night my innocence was stolen, the night I made the mistake of saying no—a mistake I’d never make again.
The dream of a ‘happily ever after' was now a locked away myth. I promised myself that I’d never return to the place of my worst nightmare, that I’d never let anyone get close, but then again, I never thought I’d meet someone like him.
The intense, confident and beautiful Ky Crawford.
I had no plans to become someone’s Prince Charming.
I couldn’t be. I refused to be. My plan was simple—do whatever it takes to correct my biggest mistake, my one regret that now controlled my life.
I was on track. I had plans, but then everything changed when I saw her—the girl in the red jacket, the girl who I was told couldn’t say no.
The reserved yet stunning Eden Rivers.
A girl who can’t say no.
A guy who craves redemption.
A chance encounter?
It all comes down to this.
Be My December?
There are scars in life that take away your ability to breath, your ability to care. The depth of Eden's are life altering. Every day is a struggle and she has all but isolated herself because of them. When she gets a job offer that she loves it takes her to the city where it all came down. Her hopes, dreams, and desires diminished in one night.
Eden is such a complex character. My heart truly broke for her. She's been brutalized physically and mentally. The events in the book were cruel and her strength is awe inspiring. It shows just how much power love can bring to a person when they know there is something worth fighting for. She has great friends that show just how much of a loving person she is.
Then there is Ky. Swoon!
Ky has a plan. He needs to alleviate his guilt and redeem himself. It all starts with her, the one that is ever most on his mind. When he asks Eden for a chance to show her how to live he doesn't realize what he's asking for in the long run.
Ky has tortured himself for four years. He blames himself for events that weren't his fault, but he can't move on. He feels that he doesn't deserve life or happiness. I knew where the story was going with him, but couldn't wait for it to get there. Ky comes off at first as a player type, but once you get under all those good looks he's considerate and sensitive. I love his interaction with Eden and how gentle and slow he goes with her.
The way the story flows seemed time consuming at first. I wanted it to get to the point where we found out what was going on. Once that point was met though I devoured the book. The way the events happened were so much more than I expected. The chemistry between Ky and Eden is so strong and I love how the relationship developed first.
This book is a vibrant 4 stars. It is full of swoony men and gorgeous strong women. These characters are the makings of a great series. I love, love, love Josh and Colby. I can't wait for their books. The dynamics are great and this books deals with a sensitive topic very respectfully.
