Review & Giveaway: "Merciless Ride" by Chelsea Camaron

Title: Merciless Ride (The Hellions Ride, #3)
Author: Chelsea Camaron
Release Date: October 10, 2014
Mercy is no friend of mine. Karma, she has yet to show kindness to me. The hits just keep on coming for Tessie Marie Harlow. She has never had an easy life. Her mom disabled, her dad long gone, and a single mom raising a rambunctious little boy, that’s Tessie’s world. Her childhood aspirations to be a nurse long since disappeared after a college spring fling both blessed and burdened her with a baby boy. Dropping out of school, she returns to her hometown and begins to settle in. Getting the only job she could as a bartender she spends her days caring for her son and nights serving the Hellions Motorcycle Club and their affiliates. Tired of waiting for Rex to grow up, she’s faced with the bane existence of her life until one night changes everything. In the darkest hour of her merciless ride through life, she’s saved by a quiet, laid back Hellion. Andy ‘Shooter’ Jenkins has always been around. Too wrapped in Rex she has never really noticed him before. He has never been loud or known to have the girls hanging all over him. He is a mystery. A chance encounter brings him to her rescue not once but twice. The Desert Ghosts Motorcycle Club are in town and bring their own brand of chaos right to Tessie’s door. Forced into her day to day life, Shooter is doing everything he can to shelter and protect her as lines are crossed and a war between two clubs begins. Secrets revealed putting two brothers in the Hellions Motorcycle Club at a serious crossroads in their lives. This is not a ride for pleasure. This is not a ride for safety. This is not a ride for love. This is a ride for endurance. Mercy has never once shined her grace down for these two, but in the midst of the danger and lies can they learn to rely on one another and ride it out together?
Tessie and Rex share history. They've had a long standing relationship of sex only, but things are changing. Tessie has waited years for Rex to grow up and make her something  more than a convenient piece. When he fails to help her and Shooter is sent instead it shows her that she could have something more, maybe something real. Tessie has secrets though that the brotherhood can't find out, if they do she may not be the only one to suffer.
Tessie is an amazing character. She cares for everyone in every way that she can. Whether it's caring for her sick mother, being a single mother to her son, or a shoulder to cry on she always puts everyone else first. She's a beautiful person inside and a gorgeous woman outside. Rex isn't the only person who's had his eye on her, but no other brother will step on his toes. When it's apparent that whatever they had is over though, it's time for her to move onto someone else and she won't have to wait too long.
Shooter has a hard past. It's filled with death. He watched the only girl he loved kill herself in front of him and blame him for it. He's served multiple tours in the Army with the Green Berets. The darkness haunts him and though he wants to move on, he can't. When he helps Tessie one late night, he wonders why she puts up with Rex. When he overhears her conversation though and realizes that they are over, an opportunity opens. She deserves better though. More than he can give.
As the circumstances change, so does Shooter. He has so many sides to him and I fell in love with them all. He is a truly kind man, but can be dangerous. He hasn't coped with the demons of his past though and it's holding him back. You can see how bad he wants to put the nightmares to rest, but he doesn't know how.
This book is amazing, page after page, 5 stars doesn't seem enough for it. I loved Tessie in the other books of the series and hoped Rex would change. I'm glad now that he didn't, though I wonder if he will in the future. The ending of this book was perfect and gave so much hope for their future. Tessie's struggles are enough to make you cry. If rape and physical violence bother you, you may have a hard time reading part of this book. I can tell you though that Tessie is amazingly strong and has the perfect person to help her through it.
I am anxious for the other books in the series. I want to see if there is anything there for Lux and Rex. Maybe together, or with other people, but it's a book I've been waiting for. I am so glad that Tessie got a book and a happy ending.

Walking in, I round the corner to the kitchen and stop in my tracks. Tessie is at the table with Axel. She has those little chocolate morsels lined up in front of her and her son, a pan of raw cookies on the other side.

“Okay, Axel, if you have four chocolate chips and you add two more, how many chocolate chips total will we be putting on the top of the cookie?” Tessie asks her son.

“One, two, three, four… I eat one” —which he proceeds to do before continuing— “five, six. We have six chocolate chips on top of that one, Momma.”

I smile at the sight before me.

“You didn’t share with me,” Tessie jokes.

“Momma, you ate like half the bag mixing the cookie dough. You gotta save some for Gigi,” Axel defends.

“Axel, a woman can never have too much chocolate,” Tessie informs her son.

“Always remember that, Axel,” I add, making my way farther into the room. “It applies to all women, and it may get your ass—I mean, butt, outta trouble one day.”

When Tessie laughs, my heart skips a beat. It is the most beautiful sound my ears have ever heard. I’ve never, in all the years at the bar, heard her laugh. Watching her with her son, the light in her eyes, I want nothing more than to protect what the two of them share.

“You’re like the smartest dude ever, mister,” Axel greets me, laughing alongside his mom.

“Nah, just observant. Learn early, chocolate is man’s best friend, not a damn dog.”

“Momma says damn is a yucky word. I’m not allowed to say it. She says it a lot when she stubs her toe and stuff.”

Chelsea Camaron
Chelsea Camaron was born and raised in Coastal North Carolina. She currently resides in Southern Louisiana with her husband and two children but her heart is always Carolina day dreaming. Chelsea always wanted to be a writer, but like most of us, let fear of the unknown grab a hold of her dream; she realized that if she was going to tell her daughter to go for her dreams, that it was time to follow her own advice. Chelsea grew up turning wrenches alongside her father, and from that grew her love for old muscle cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles, which just so happened to inspired her ‘Daddy’s Girls’ series. Her love for reading has sparked a new love for writing and she currently has a few more projects in the works. When she is not spending her days writing you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in. She hates being serious and is still a big kid at heart. She is a small town country girl enjoying life and, Chelsea hopes that her readers remember not to take life too seriously and to embrace your inner five year old, because five year olds know how to enjoy the simple things in life and how to always have fun.
