Review: "Soldier On" by Sydney Logan

Soldier On

Will his call of duty break both their hearts?

Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. As a college senior juggling a full course load, Steph's only goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester. She’s focused, determined, and a firm believer in all work and no play. Then she meets Brandon Walker at a New Year’s Eve costume party. Despite his disguise, Steph finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon is an engineering major and ROTC student from the hills of Kentucky. Growing up as the son of a major general has given Brandon firsthand knowledge of the struggles military families sometimes face. Now that his father’s memory is fading, Brandon is even more determined to make his dad proud and graduate as an officer in the United States Army. Then he meets Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph’s resentment toward the military, he worries their relationship is doomed.

Steph unexpectedly finds herself in need of a roommate. Brandon volunteers, thinking it’s the perfect opportunity to show her the real Brandon, before he’s forced to admit the truth about his four-year obligation to the army. Afraid that living together will be a distraction to graduating on time, Steph establishes house rules—rules they both find difficult to obey.

When faced with the realization that she's fallen in love with a soldier, can Steph’s wounds from the past be healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

Steph has strict goals, the most important right now is graduating in May. Between her classes and her job there is little time left for a life. She's a girl who knows herself well and has strong opinions. One of those pertains to the military and how it took her father away before she was born. When she is dragged to a movie themed frat party that leads to a kiss from GI Joe it puts her on her ear.

Brandon is leaving for Georgia soon after he graduates in May. His major is engineering and he's in the ROTC program as well. With classes, drills, work, and volunteering he hasn't had time for women. When he sees the girl dressed as Belle he knows she's special. When he kisses her, he knows he could be in trouble. He doesn't know her name, he doesn't have time for her, but he can do nothing without thinking of her.

Steph and Brandon's romance is ironic in the fact that neither are looking for love. In fact, it's the last thing either of them want because they can't afford to be distracted. The way the meet both the first time and when names are exchanged just happen. Both characters drove me crazy at times, Brandon with his secrets and Steph with her rigidness.

This is a sweet love story that doesn't get too heated so older teens could read it. It's a story that shows love sometimes just shows up if your eyes aren't too closed off to see it. I love Xavier and Tessa. The way they help in this story and their own love helps to make the book the story that it is. If your looking for a sweet, mostly clean romance this is it.

When love happens in the unlikeliest of circumstances Vince must ask himself - Is love fit for the damned and the sinner?

damned sinner teaser 2.jpg

We got a bit of a look at Vince and Kelsey at the end of Queen of Hearts. She's the sister to the woman who cause an enormous amount of trouble. She's also under his protection. As much as Vince wants her, he won't admit it to her or himself. He's not good enough for her and has chosen the path that won't lead to her broken heart.

Kelsey is in love with Vince. He's her protector when he didn't have to be, shouldn't have been. He's cared when so many others haven't. She wants him with everything in her and is determined to make him see what a good man he is.

This book is full of the turns and twists that is their torment. You can't call it a relationship, it's not really a friendship, it's just torture on both ends. These are two stubborn characters that both know how to play the game and can run as cold as they do hot. I've loved Vince's character from the beginning of the series. He's done so much to help Jayne and been so many things to her that you know what kind of man he is.

There are parts to this book that will utterly frustrate you. (Not sure who I wanted to shake more) There's parts that will make you want to cry and then there is the ending. It took a while and had a hard way to come around, but I loved the way it ended. I've loved all the books in this series. I'm sad to see Jayne and Vince go.

This is another fabulous book by Jami Denise. I'm anxious to see what else she has in the works. This is a series that all will enjoy and one that's not to be missed.

Her lips were glossy and covered with a thick sheen of red. I stared at her mouth while dragging a finger across them and let the paint follow a path down her chin, over her neck, and down her chest. The stain coated the light fabric of the white dress—spoiling it, just like I was spoiling her.
“You can see right through this,” I said roughly and dragged a finger underneath the neckline of the dress. Your little pink nipples are pushing right through it—aching and ready for someone to bite them.”
I let my teeth snap in her ear and then sucked the soft skin into my mouth. “A man like me sees a woman in a dress like this, and that’s what he wants. To touch the nipples you so willingly show off, to bite, pull, tug, and suck on them. He wants to pull those sweet little tits into his mouth, let his tongue run over them until your nipples are so hard they hurt.
She was shaking, but I wasn’t going to stop there. As if to show her exactly what I was talking about, I moved the palm of my hand over her shoulder and down to her chest. I cupped one of her ripe tits in my hand, squeezing softly at first, and then wrapped my fist around it tightly and pulled.
She whimpered, and her knees shook. I was testing her, and so far she failed. As badly as she thought she wanted what I had to give, she had no fucking clue what it meant. She wasn’t ready.
I released her from my grasp and ran my hand over her clavicle, smearing the rotten red mess all over her chest and the top of the dress before moving it down over her belly.
“I could see the valley between your legs when you walked down the hallway,” I growled in her ear. “I could see your little pussy, the sweet V where I’d sink my cock. All I could think about was your long, skinny legs wrapped around my back while I fucked you right there in the hallway.”
She whined. “Please, oh God.” She grabbed the collar of my shirt and tried to pull me closer. “Fuck me, Vince.”
My cock jumped in reply, but I ignored her and went on with my ministrations. I reached the hem of her skirt, and with a swift rip, I yanked it up over her hip. There wasn’t much of it there in the first place, so it was no big task. That pissed me off even more. There were maybe three inches of lift and I could see her pussy.
Rubbing my coarse finger over her soft, silky mound, I stood back and watched her face. I was testing her, but I wasn’t going to push her. If she showed an ounce of regret, I was done. But I had to see where she stood once and for all.
Her eyes fluttered open as if she could read my thoughts. They were as wide as a newborn chick, scared and astonished, but surprised and exhilarated.
But definitely not ready to leave the nest.
I gave her pussy one more swipe of my finger and then a light slap. The shock showed clear in her eyes, and her mouth fell slack with pleasure. I could feel that she was into it, slick and warm and malleable in my hands.
“That’s right, baby,” I said gruffly. “I want to tear this pussy up. I want to make this pussy cry. You have no idea what I want to do to you, and if you don’t stop teasing me, you’re bound to find out.”
She bucked her hips stubbornly, and I narrowed my eyes. Folding my fingers, I gave her clit a hard flick with enough force to knock a dog on its ass.
“You’re not ready for this—or me,” I said, lowering my voice. “I want to defile you in so many ways, but that’s not what you want.”
“Yes,” she said. Her voice shook, and I could feel her heavy heartbeat through her dress.
“I care about what happens to you, Kelsey,” I said as evenly as I could. “That’s why I took you home—where you belonged. If you think walking around in Jayne’s clothes will do you any good, you’re completely wrong. What I want to do with your body is the same thing every other man out there wants. The only difference is, they won’t stop.”
“Don’t stop,” she said weakly, tears sprouting from her eyes. “I can handle anything from you. I love you, and you damn well know it.”
She dropped to her knees abruptly and raised her hands to undo my fly. I had a brief moment of euphoria. This was a regular fantasy of mine to have her on her knees with her mouth on me. It was too fresh and way too clear for me to think straight.
I jerked her up by her shoulders and pinned her back against the wall. “Stop!”
She snarled and fought against my hold on her. “If you don’t want me, why do you care if someone else does?”
I slammed her lightly against the door and leaned forward again so we were eye to eye. “I do want you—that’s not the problem. I want to fuck you. There’s a difference.”

Is the cure for a breakup a hookup? Marissa Duplei has one mission. Pick herself up, dust the ex off, and get dirty with someone else. However, sexy, inked-up, metal-musician Jack Storm is not the average girl’s revenge fling. A tour bus bang. A one night stand gone awry. A secret to keep at all costs. Could it all lead to love? ♪♫ Marissa ♫♪ Looking back, everything about that day was a perfect storm. My bestfriend’s score of two VIP passes the day before the Hang Fest. A giant hurricane with a generous shot of alcohol. A sexy metal musician who was opposite of my cheating fiancĂ© in every way. The inked up muscled arms holding a tiny puppy protectively to his bare chest told me there was more to him than met the eye. I had to know more. I’ve always been practical. I know I wouldn’t have seen him again if I hadn’t rolled out of bed and stepped into the shower. ♪♫ Jack ♫♪ That's true. A Perfect Storm. There was the puppy my sister forced on me as an exercise in commitment. And for damn sure, the cutoff shorts and tight sleeveless top she was wearing that day. Marissa just suffered an ultimate betrayal. She caught her fiance with another woman. Her best friend Olivia has dragged her to a music festival in hopes that Rissa will move on. She definitely does, by moving in the bed of Jack Storm.  Their connection is off the charts hot and leave both with
"what ifs". Years later circumstances arise and Marissa contacts Jack. The connection is still there. Can they make amends?

Jack is soft hearted for a hard rocker. He"s the type that is easy to fall for and easy to love. He has to be cautious though because of who he is.  Marissa is the first woman to want him for himself and had no idea who he was.  She's hard working and careful with her heart.  She"s never known wealth and though she pinches pennies, she hasn't a desire for it.

I like how the timeline evolves and the surprises in the book that aren't mentioned in the synopsis.  The chemistry is palpable through the entire story, Liv is an amazing friend and has stepped up so much for Rissa that it's a friendship to be cherished. I love their interactions.  I finished this book in a day and loved every minute of it. It's not just a rock star romance. it's love finding two people at a later date when the time is right.

So why this Marissa? Why was she different? I had no idea. I only knew I wanted to rock her world like it had never been shaken before. And I wanted to taste her… again… I loved every sound she made, and I loved feeling her nails biting into my shoulders. She orgasmed with a melodic pitch, which cracked at the end of one long hum. I’d heard it enough in the last couple of hours now to be familiar with it, to fall for it. Her legs gelled, her weight falling to her palms on my shoulders. Reflexively, I gripped her hips. Straightening, I quickly pulled her close, wanting to feel the pound of her heart and uneven breathing—wanting to experience the physiological effect I’d had on her, now that I’d heard the audible. My hands slipped from her tits around to her backside, and remembering the quick glimpse of her ass, I spun her away for another look. I could look at that view forever. Her arms were bent, palms to the faux tile pattern on the wall, and her head rested forward on the tiles. A totally submissive stance. And having this woman at my complete will turned me on like I hadn’t been in so long.

Blog Tour: Excerpt & Giveaway "His Desire" by Sheila Kell

How long would it take for him to turn into an ass again? She caught Jesse’s gaze and found herself momentarily mesmerized by his golden-brown eyes. What the hell?

HIS Desire (An H.I.S. novel) is a romantic suspense, stand-alone novel in the H.I.S. series released Nov 5th.

Can Jesse Hamilton, the head of H.I.S., protect his client when his past and his heart have put them both in jeopardy?

When FBI Special Agent Kate Ross is injured in a drive-by shooting, Hamilton Investigation and Security, Inc. (H.I.S.) leader Jesse Hamilton, believing she is the target of a killer seeking revenge against him, pulls the full force of H.I.S. into action to protect her.

Kate doesn’t believe Jesse, the only man to make her seethe one minute and lust after him the next, when he approaches her with a note from the Facilitator stating someone he loved would die shortly, and he knows in his gut it’s Kate. After a second attempt on her life, she can no longer fight his protection or her attraction to him.

After making a mistake that cost his wife her life, Jesse vowed to never love again, but Kate stirs something in him that puts his protective instincts into overdrive. Keeping her alive and out of his heart is more difficult than he expected. Then he makes a decision that could cost Kate her life. Is history due to repeat itself?

Chapter 1 - (Unedited excerpt / first scene)
FBI Special Agent Kate Ross heard the wolf whistle as she approached the bench in the small park outside the federal building. She shook her head and rolled her eyes at her partner FBI Special Agent AJ Hamilton. He couldn’t go a moment without flirting with someone. He’d flirted with Kate when they’d been first assigned together. In response, she’d pinned him to the floor. He received the message loud and clear. Now they were good friends, and she couldn’t imagine a better partner.
The leggy redhead AJ had whistled at smiled and waved at him. His wink put a little pep in the woman’s step as she continued on her way. She expected AJ to jump up and follow the woman, but his butt remained glued to the bench, sandwich in hand.
She smiled and plopped down beside him, finally having a chance to eat lunch. Although at the late hour, it could’ve been called an early dinner. They’d wrapped up a murder case of a married couple were caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
She removed the lid on her Cobb salad and chuckled at his peanut butter sandwich. For a twenty-five year old man, he still hung on to his childhood favorites.
“Date of the month?” Kate poured Ranch dressing on her salad.
“Month?” AJ laughed. “Try week. I may love women, but I need to be able to hold an intelligent conversation with them.” He took a large bite of his sandwich.
“When are you going to start eating adult food? Maybe that’s why she kept walk-”
“You’re charging the wrong kid with murder,” a deep, masculine voice interrupted. Jesse, AJ’s older brother, appeared before them. How did he manage to always sneak up on them? “Samuel’s innocent.”
Samuel happened to be the teenage boy they’d just arrested for the double homicide. His father, a sitting judge, had hired H.I.S. to clear him as soon as he became a suspect.
Jesse, a former FBI agent himself, co-owned H.I.S., Hamilton Investigation and Security, Inc., with most of his brothers. Because of his relationship with the FBI Deputy Director, he’d been granted access to the investigation from the beginning. For the last month, he’d questioned everything AJ and Kate did and any evidence they collected, going out of his way to annoy the hell out of her in the process.
“We’ve been over this before.” She chucked her fork in the plastic container. The thought of food no longer appealed to her. “Our evidence points to him as the killer.”
They only had circumstantial evidence against Samuel. She’d suggested they continue their search for other suspects, but the Powers-to-be decided to charge the kid, halting any further investigation.
AJ stood, a troubled frown set into his features. “Jesse. You need to let it go.”
He nodded. “AJ.”
She watched the dynamic between the two devastatingly handsome men who were so different, but couldn’t be mistaken for anything other than brothers. She preferred AJ’s fun-loving, flirtatious nature over Jesse’s serious, aggravating personality any day of the week.
“Hello, Agent Ross. It’s good to see you again.” His mouth spread into a thin-lipped smile. His voice courteous, but patronizing.

Sheila has been an avid reader since she was young, believing in fantasy worlds, women sleuths and happily-ever-after. Instead of writing as a career, she followed in her father’s footsteps and joined the U.S. Air Force. After 12 years, she left the military as a disabled veteran then spent 12 year in higher education executive leadership. After reading her first romantic suspense novel, Sheila finally knew what she wanted to write. She has since retired to fulfill that dream. When not writing, she reads or spends time with her family. She lives in Batesville, Mississippi with three rescue cats.

Review: "Betrayal" by Margaret Bingley

Set in the second half of the twentieth century, Lisa Green comes from a world of privilege, but only in the way of wealth, not in love. When a turn of events leaves her single, with an Autistic child to raise, without the means to support herself, Lisa gets stuck in an abusive new relationship that she is desperate to get out of. BETRAYAL catalogs one woman’s search for love without conditions, sexual or otherwise, in a world that seems bent against her.

Lisa has had an emotionally stunted childhood. As an adopted child, she was never good enough for her mother and her father wanted to use her for his gain.  She is opinionated and boisterous which leads to some wrong decisions. When she makes a huge error it alters her life completely.

Lisa is a character that pulls on you emotionally. She goes through experiences that can only be described as torture.  She was reared in the wrong circle and the people in it is what lead to the men in her life.  She is so innocent, vulnerable, and gullible that she doesn't know the dangers around her until it's at a point of no return.  I don't want to give anything away, just know that each event effects the future events.

The book is a long novel length. It takes Lisa from a young girl to a woman in her 20's.  It's a story of organized crime in England along with a group from Italy.  Based on clothing descriptions I'd say it's the 80's or 90's.  It was hard to read how little the women matter in this world.  Even the children are only used for bartering or heirs.

The story is thorough and detailed. There are some times when it's hard to tell who is speaking, but once you get used to how the book is written it's not bothersome. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I will surely look at her others. She knows how to make a story so gripping that it leaves a permanent mark on you.  I love the ending, It was done so that a person is left feeling complete with no wish for more information of the future.

Margaret Bingley

Margaret Bingley was born in Sutton, Surrey more years ago than she cares to remember. She was educated at Sutton High School for Girls GPDST and then at Rickard’s Lodge Secretarial College in Wimbledon. This secretarial college no longer exists, a fact for which she refuses to bear any responsibility.

After that she went to work at the BBC in London, and later moved to work for The Heinemann Group of Publishers at Lower Kingswood in Surrey, where she met her future husband, Alan.

In 1974, Margaret and Alan moved to Grantham in Lincolnshire, due to Alan’s work commitments. Margaret found it difficult to find the kind of work that she enjoyed there, and decided that having a child might be more fun.

In 1976 her son, Alex, was born and she discovered that she was wrong. It had actually been more fun working as a secretary in a tyre making machinery company. Because Alex was an active little chap, with a severe case of sleep aversion for his first four years, Margaret became physically exhausted and mentally brain dead.

After reading a particularly boring book, she decided to try and write one herself and eventually, after many trials and tribulations, her first book THE DEVIL’S CHILD was published. Much of the book was based on those early, halcyon days of motherhood.
She continued writing steadily from 1983 onwards, and in February 2000 she also started writing a weekly column of 400 words for the local paper, The Grantham Journal, entitled ‘The Way I See It’.

The way she saw it was often not the way the readers saw it, but at least it provided people with a talking point and someone to hate when the weather was bad. She stopped writing the column in July 2005 due to her husband’s ill health.

Over the years, as Margaret has progressed from manual typewriter to electric typewriter to computer, Alan has retired to become a kept man and Alex has been to drama school, where he gained a B.A.(Hons) in acting. He then spent four years as an actor/waiter before deciding to take a Masters Degree in Voice at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Having gained his Masters, he is now a freelance voice and speech coach. He currently teaches voice at The Drama Centre, The Central School of Speech and Drama, the E15 Drama School and on the Italia Conti B.A.(Hons) acting course. He also teaches private and corporate clients and very kindly gives his mother free vocal assistance before she’s due to give any of her talks. He is also extremely good at giving her relaxation hints. On balance, she feels that having a child turned out to be a wise decision.

Apart from her work, Margaret enjoys reading, opera, dry white wine, Foyle’s War (or anything else with Michael Kitchen in it!) and gardening.

She does not like reality TV shows, ‘alternative’ comedians or Political Correctness.

Margaret also publishes erotica novels under the pseudonyms Fredrica Alleyn and Marina Anderson.

First Debt (Book Two) Indebted Series
first debt.jpg
“You say I’ll never own you. If I win—you willingly give me that right. You sign not only the debt agreement, but another—one that makes me your master until your last breath is taken. You do that, and I’ll give you this.”
Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Stolen, taken, and bound not by monsters but by an agreement written over six hundred years ago, she has no way out.
She belongs to Jethro as much as she denies it.
Jethro Hawk’s patience is running out. His inheritance gift tests, challenges, and surprises him—and not in good ways. He hasn’t leashed her but he thinks he might’ve found a way to bind her forever.
Debts are mounting. Payment waiting.
Barnes & Noble:
first debt teaser 3.jpg

Nila has been given the chance to run for her freedom. It's a chance that she knows is likely not fair, a chance that won't happen. It's the risk she has to take though and it helps her to develop a plan. It's a plan that's as dangerous as it is foolhardy. It's also one that puts Jethro and herself at risk.

This book gives us clues as to who Kite007 is and at the very end the truth of his identity. This part of the story is full of twists, most of them surprising. As Nila becomes both comfortable and fearful, she's a contradiction at all times. The first debt is paid and she's looking at the second. If the debts get worse as they go, she may be in for some very harsh times.

Jethro is so complex in this book that I feel truly bad for him. He has a conscience and it's creating problems to the point you wander if he is truly mentally unstable at times, not that anyone in the family could be sane. I actually think I felt worse for him than Nila in this book.

Then there is Kes. He's so different from the rest that you wonder if it's real. I guess we'll have to wait for the books to come to find out if there's an ulterior motive. Just as I wonder of the others in the house and why they do the things they do.

This is an amazing sequel to the first book and I can't wait for the rest of the series. The book brought about many answers from the first book, but there are just as many new questions now. The ending was priceless. Truly I don't know how she didn't see it coming. It's again a little cliffy, but a great place to stop at. This is an amazingly gripping series and one that doesn't let go when it's taken it's hold.

Excerpt #1
A small gasp fell from my lips as his fingers kissed the paper-thin skin. His eyes held me hostage. The golden brown was now a swirling bronze, raging with the same demanding hunger I knew reflected in mine.
“This sort of reminds me of the forest,” I whispered. “The trees around us—no one else.” My words fell like petals, waiting for Jethro to crush them beneath his glossy shoe.
But…he didn’t.
Tracing one hand from my wrist, along the inside of my arm, and right to my throat, he fisted my ponytail. With intensity that stripped my soul to the very essence of who I was, he pulled my head back slowly, sensually, full of sexual power.
His eyes dropped to my mouth. “I’ll let you in on a little secret, Ms. Weaver.”
I panted, my neck straining against his hold, but I made no move to break the poignant awareness.
“You won that night, but I lied when I said it pissed me off.” His mouth dropped, his tongue licked my bottom lip with the barest of grazes.

Debt Inheritance (Book One) Indebted Series

She is no longer free.
