Uncover Me - Men of Inked #4

Synopsis:

I lost track of my life.
Spiraling down the rabbit hole, I lost myself and became one of them. Living undercover within the MC, the days bled together as I became absorbed in a life of excess and violence. Becoming consumed was easy. Was I Thomas Gallo, good guy and respected cop or Blue, Sergeant-at-Arms of the Sun Devils MC? Before, I could answer with certainty. But now, there’s a darkness that has settled deep in my soul, fusing with my heart and altering my reality forever. The road I’ve traveled has been paved with danger, death, and deception. Roxanne grew up as part of the MC, a victim of her birth. Her life has been treacherous, setting her on a course of torment and destruction. When our worlds collide, secrets are revealed. Trying to save us from damnation, I fight for redemption and the woman I love.

Review:

I knew Thomas's story would be something special and it is. He's deep undercover and now that Izzy is involved he sees everything that he's blocked out. He's missing his family.  While he is undercover their lives are moving on. There has been a marriage, girlfriends, a baby on the way, and now he wants out. When he leaves though he doesn't want to leave Roxy. She's the light to the darkness he feels deep inside.

Thomas's story is much different to the other brothers or Izzy. He seems like he has it all together, but on the inside he's struggling. Then there is Roxy. She's a perfect fit with the other ladies. She's strong willed, but has had some major difficulties in life to overcome.  She knows she wants Thomas for keeps. He's the best thing that's ever happened to her, but the secrets he keeps from her make it hard for her to understand him.

As the story evolves I wasn't sure who I felt worse for.  They both have inner turmoils to overcome. The one I expected to be the most messed up surprised me. I like that in all of the books of this series the story isn't just given to you. This book is packed with suspense, action, love, and friendship. I really hope that Thomas and Roxy get a novella. I absolutely can't wait to see what Anthony's book brings. This book and the series is NOT to be missed!

Sneak Peek Excerpt
Excerpt from Second Debt by Pepper Winters.
RELEASE DATE: January 26th

I’D TAKEN HER, but ultimately, she’d taken me.
I’d tried to destroy her, but serendipitously, she’d destroyed me.
This was the beginning of the end.
Not the end of my feelings for her but the way of my life, my world.
Something would have to change.
Something would have to give…
Someone would have to die.

EXCERPT TWO:
Just thinking of Jethro sent a spasm of desire through my core.
Dammit, what’s happening to me?
A daydream of Jethro slamming to his knees before me and wrenching my legs wide stole my mind. It was so vivid, so real—a trickle of need ran down my inner thigh. I gasped as I imagined his tongue lapping at my clit, his long fingers disappearing inside me—the same finger that I’d tattooed with my name.
Would I come harder knowing he touched me with a finger branded by me? Or would I hold on as tight as I could and make him work for it?
Oh, God.
I needed to get rid of this satanic desire. I needed to be free.
My eyes opened, latching onto the detachable showerhead.
I could do it myself…
My heartbeat whizzed with need. I couldn’t fight the churning demand any longer.
Reaching upward, I unhooked the showerhead and turned the water temperature down so as not to burn myself.
Feeling awkward and ridiculous and a hundred times guilty for what I was about to do, I braced my back on the tiled wall and spread my legs a little.
My teeth clamped on my bottom lip as the water pressure tickled my clit.
Oh. My. God.
My eyes rolled back as I grew bolder and pressed the stream of heavenly water harder against my pussy.
Water cascaded down my legs while my torso shivered from sudden cold. My nipples stiffened as I wickedly angled the jet down and down until water shot inside me. Every jet and bubble aroused sensitive flesh, sending my muscles clenching in joy.
I moaned.
Loudly.
My legs trembled as my neck flopped forward and I gave myself over to the exquisite pleasure conjured by an innocuous showerhead.
Starbursts flashed behind my eyelids; Jethro loomed into my mind. I pictured him shrugging out of his black shirt, prowling toward me while unbuckling his belt and unzipping his trousers. I moaned again as my daydream shed his clothing and stood proud and naked before me. He grabbed his cock, pumping himself hard and firm, while his eyes feasted on what I was doing. He didn’t say a word, only watched, then crooked his finger and beckoned me closer.
My heartbeat exceeded recommended limits as I forced myself higher and higher, locking my knees against buckling as an orgasm brewed into being. I rocked the showerhead, biting my lip as the pressure spurted over my clit and then inside me. The rhythm I set was exactly like fucking and I daren’t overthink how I looked or how depraved I felt getting off this way.
My daydream forced its way past my misgivings. My forehead furrowed as I trembled, both welcoming and fighting an orgasm.
Daydream Jethro crept closer, working his cock, a dangerous glint in his eyes. The moment I was within grabbing distance, he captured my waist. “I need to be inside you, Nila.” I put words into Jethro’s mouth, but it was his voice I heard in my heart.
I moaned again, angling the showerhead harder against my clit.
“How do you want it?” my fantasy whispered in my ear as he spun me around and pressed me hard against the wall.
I swallowed hard, answering in my mind. “Fast and…”
“Filthy?” Daydream Jethro’s nose nuzzled the back of my ear, sending shockwaves down my spine. “I can fuck you filthy.”
I couldn’t speak. But I didn’t have to. My fantasy knew exactly how I needed it. Jethro bit the back of my shoulder, spreading my legs wider with his.
“Fuck me, Jethro Hawk,” I whispered.
“Oh, I will. Believe me, I will.” Without further warning, he dug his fingers into my hips and slammed inside me.
My fingers went numb as I slid the showerhead from clit to entrance. I cried out as water shot inside at the same time as Jethro thrust into me from behind, sliding deep and fast, stretching me deliciously painfully.
My heart exploded with bliss. An orgasm squeezed every atom, getting ready to hurl me into the stratosphere.
Jethro thrust again and I rode my new friend the showerhead.
“Oh, God. Yes,” I hissed, rocking harder. “Yes, yes…”
A masculine cough sounded. “You continue to surprise me, Ms. Weaver; at least this time, I rather enjoy it.”
Everything crashed into awareness. My daydream shattered, fracturing by my feet like broken glass. I squealed and dropped the showerhead. It turned into a water snake, spewing water left and right, wriggling like some terrible demon.
Jethro snickered. “You’re using up the entire Hall’s supply of hot water. Are you planning on saving some for the rest of the inhabitants of my home?”

REVIEW

There are deep dark scars in Olivia's past. Ones that only her family know of and that aren't readily spoken about. These are part of the same scars that keep her from the man that she is beyond attracted to. She knows that she can't do a relationship, but when given thought of having a bit of fun it's another story.

Dylan has wanted Olivia since the first time he saw her. He knows that she's attracted to him. The chemistry can be felt a mile away, but she fights it tooth and nail. He doesn't know why, but he's decided to take charge.

Olivia and Dylan both have family issues that have affected their lives. They have both become successful people though and overcome obstacles. Some parts of the story will tear at your heart, while others will bring on a full body blush. The characters  are well written. By the end of the book I felt like I knew most of them myself. I don't want to give anything away and oh is it hard because there were so many moments that I loved.

This story has a side story to it as well. As Olivia and Dylan handle the football team, drama starts to creep around different corners. That element brings a bit of suspense to the book, as well as action. This is definitely a book to read and a series that I will be following.

Review: "The Space Between" by Kate Canterbary

SYNOPSIS

Some lines are meant to be crossed. Patrick That hair. That fucking hair. It was everywhere, always, and I wanted to tangle my fingers in those dark curls and pull. And that would be fine if she wasn't my apprentice. Andy Asani was nothing like I expected. She was exotic and scary-brilliant, and the slightest murmur from those lips sent hot, hungry lust swirling through my veins. Outside my siblings, she was the only person I could name who shared my obsession with preserving Boston's crumbling buildings. Andy My wants were few: good eats, tall boots, sweaty yoga, interesting work. One incredibly hot architect with the most expressive hazel eyes I ever encountered and entirely too much talent in and out of the bedroom wasn't part of the original plan. Apparently he was part of the package. Wine was my rabbi and vodka was my therapist, and I needed plenty of both to survive my apprenticeship. Especially with Patrick Walsh leaving love notes in the form of bite marks all over my body.
*This is the second book in The Walshes Series, though it reads as a stand-alone novel.*

REVIEW

At first Patrick seems uptight. He knows he's attracked to Andy and uses assholish-ness to push her away. The attraction is mutual though and the worse he acts the more Andy seems to be attracted to him.  She's fighting the chemistry though just as hard as he is, if not harder. Both have enough luggage from their past to fill up a storage unit. The connection between the two isn't just chemistry though. They both have a love of architecture and food.  They bond over these two things and build a strong friendship.

I like that this isn't a hugely complicated book. Though they both are fighting their attraction to each other it's not causing the angst and conflict that pulls you emotionally. There are lessons to be learned, but it's an easy and enjoyable read.  I will say this is the first book I've read of this series and I love the Walsh's hard. These sibling all have their own quirks and personalities and even though this book is mainly about only one of them, you really get a peak at all of them. Andy's character is a breath of fresh air. She's an average girl that doesn't fit into any mold. She can be a girly girl, one of the guys, a geek, and the list keeps going. She really is the type of female I can relate to.

This is a brilliant book and I definitely recommend it. I'll be going back to read book one and looking forward to the other books in the series.

Review
This is the book that I have been waiting for. Truly, the way the last one ended was emotional. In this book Jennifer is dealing with what seems to be PTSD. The nightmare of what she went through won't stop and Jesse is still a very real threat to her life. Finnley is always by her side and is dealing with his own emotions. After losing his wife and the too close call with Jenn he has feelings to still work through.
They still want their happily ever after, but feel a dark shadow ever hanging around them. The better part of the book makes you feel like your waiting for Jesse to step out right there. It's also full of the soft and loving moments between Jennifer and Finn that we all love. Finn can be super romantic for a man that can be so dangerous. We find out a little more about his past as well.
The books in this series are amazing, as is the transformation of the characters. It started out like Beauty and The Beast, but the further it gets the more I wonder which character is whom. This is a series that isn't to be missed. It takes you through the many shades of the sex industry and into a dirty fairy tale that has as much grit and it does heart.

Excerpt:

#1

Olivia woke up in the big bed in the suite she shared with Dylan. She recalled their evening and how he’d carried her back to the room, ignoring the catcalls and whistles of people as they’d walked. Honestly, she’d been so exhausted she hadn’t cared.
She rolled onto her back to find his dark eyes watching her.
“Everything good?” he asked.
She didn’t blame him. She had a tendency to pull away, but she had no intention of doing so this morning. “I’m good.” She crawled closer. “Very, very good.”
She was sore in the best possible ways, a gorgeous man had gone out of his way to make her night special, and to make sure she’d come quite a few times… Yeah, she was more than good!
He smiled in obvious relief.
“So what’s on today’s agenda?” she asked.
“We have the day free. Breakfast?”
She nodded. They ended up sharing a shower, which delayed getting to breakfast, because Dylan’s definition of getting clean involved a whole lot of getting dirty first. With the hot water streaming over them and her arms braced against the wall, he still managed to snag a condom and to take her from behind, filling her up and giving her another experience she’d never forget.

#2

“Happy birthday, Olivia,” a familiar masculine voice drawled in her ear. She shivered at the sound, all her senses prickling with awareness as Dylan Rhodes’s warm breath heated her skin.
She turned to find him close. Too close, and her pulse picked up speed. Sexy chocolate-brown eyes gazed at her. And his close-cut goatee teased her with its nearness. In her dreams, that sexy goatee felt delicious against her bared flesh.
Jesus, Olivia, get a grip.
“Thanks for coming to the party.” Her voice came out too husky for her liking, but Dylan always had this kind of effect on her. He was the travel director with the Miami Thunder, her co-worker, and the man she’d lusted after from the day they’d met.
“I’m glad your sister invited me.”
She wished Avery hadn’t insisted on throwing her a party, but now that it was nearly over, Olivia had had a wonderful time and was grateful her mom and her siblings, half and full, cared enough to attend the event. Friends and co-workers too.
Especially Dylan.
He studied her beneath his hooded gaze. “I wouldn’t miss your celebration.” He tucked a wayward strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers trailing a path over her cheek in what was a deliberate, lingering touch.
She shivered; her traitorous nipples puckered at his light caress. This was more than the flirting dance they normally did. There was intent in his coffee-colored stare.

#3

Olivia’s office had been a revolving door with people coming in and out all day. She was busier than ever, and for that, she was grateful. Because whenever she had down time, her thoughts turned to Dylan. So now, she sat at her desk, fingers playing with the sun pendant around her neck, a constant memory of the great guy she had in her life. She’d told Dylan the truth about her past and her fears about the future, and he hadn’t left.
No, he was still here with her, and she didn’t know what to make of that. How could he not care that she wasn’t certain she wanted children? How could he think she was enough? Sure, he might believe that now, but wouldn’t he come to resent her later?
A full workweek had passed, and nothing between them had changed except he’d stepped up his pursuit, as if trying to prove a point. He’d sent flowers to work, taken her out for dinner or cooked for her at his apartment, and she’d ended up sleeping there every night. If his goal was to convince her that he wasn’t going anywhere, he was doing a damned good job.
In fact, they’d fallen into a routine that she could easily get used to. If only she could relax and let herself believe everything would be okay, but instead, she tossed and turned each night. She was exhausted in the mornings, and not even a double dose of caffeine helped.
She wasn’t surprised when a knock sounded on her office door. It had been that kind of day.

Q/A

We have read about Olivia from other Dare stories, and have loved her character. What was the best part for you in bringing readers Olivia's story?

I love giving readers something unexpected in a story. In Olivia’s case, that was her vulnerability and her past. I liked creating a hero who had to have patience and understand that the men before him hurt her in ways he would have to work to overcome.

Can you describe your writing process in writing the Dare series?
Aaah, the writing process. Over the years, I’ve developed a very ugly writing process. Just ask my critique partner. For the most part it’s organic, which makes it ugly. I like the characters to write their story but that means it’s not always fluid or easy. That said I’m also a very linear writer. The story follows a pattern of the character’s life … with twists thrown in. I end up writing, rewriting, writing and so on. In the case of the Dare series I’ve been careful not to tie myself to things about future siblings/hero/heroines that I might have to change when I get to their story. That’s something I’ve learned from painful experience!

Do you have a favorite Dare family member you have written?
I always fall in love with the characters I’m writing now. So the book I put to bed most recently has the characters I love. So currently that’s Olivia and Dylan.  But you never forget your first … so there’s something special about Ian. (DARE TO LOVE) Shhh! Don’t tell the others.

How disciplined are you when it comes to writing? Nine to five? And was it always like that?

I’m disciplined once I know my deadline. If I write every morning in the beginning of a story, I’m good. I need a lot of breaks an thinking in the early days. Once I hit middle it’s a struggle, so I force it more … and once I’m at the end, it’s always a rush through the end – and that can be all day! It’s always been that way actually!

*Now that you have self-published a few books, how does it compare to working with a publisher? Do you enjoy having 'the ultimate control', or does it cause sleepless nights?

Although I’ve had amazing publishers who’ve been very good to me, I’ve never been happier than I am self publishing. I love the control, the ability to work with a book after it’s been published, to tweak pricing, covers, offer readers fun different things. It’s been the absolute best experience.

*How often do you actually still get to read for pleasure, and can you lose yourself in a story? Or does the professional in you continually whisper in your ear as you work through a book?

When I was just published, I found it difficult to read for pleasure. Now I can’t stop. I find the time because it fuels the creative well. I used to think that was BS but it’s true. When something doesn’t work in a story, my professional whispers in my ear … but when a story works, there is nothing better than getting lost in a good book!

Where did the idea for the Dare brothers come from? (ex, Do you know a family this happened to (1 dad two families?), out of the blue, etc?)
I knew I wanted a series with a lot of characters … and when I said that to my plotting partners, one of my brilliant friends came up with the father with another family, giving me siblings, half-siblings, betrayal, jealousy, bonding … everything I could want. Add in some sports (which I love  writing about) and family dynamics along with making the series edgier than anything I’ve written before (sexually) and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I have to say I’m a pretty open book. My readers know a lot about me from social media. I’m always sharing information and knowledge with other writers. So there are just the basics – I’m a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister and a crazy dog lover and voracious reader! I love carbs, hate the gym but am going twice a week now since September and finally seeing results. And if you want to know all these crazy things about me, follow me on social media or on my blog.

Tell us a little about DARE TO TOUCH and why readers should check it out.

First, DARE TO TOUCH, as with all the DARE books, stands alone if you are coming to the series for the first time. You can read Olivia and Dylan easily and then go back and check out the other stories in the series. Because I am moving around from sibling to sibling, you can definitely find a loose connection, a revisit with siblings and favorites, along with its own story.

That said, DARE TO TOUCH, like all the books, examines how a father’s betrayal (in this case a second family no one knew about) impacts each child’s life … Olivia comes to romance reluctantly and with a lot of trepidation. Dylan knows what he wants – and he’s determined to wait her out … it’s a seductive dance set in the background of the Pro Bowl in Arizona along with life in Miami. It’s hot, it’s sexy and it’s emotional.

What inspired you to write the DARE TO LOVE series?

I knew I wanted a series with a lot of characters … and when I said that to my plotting partners, one of my brilliant friends came up with the father with another family, giving me siblings, half-siblings, betrayal, jealousy, bonding … everything I could want. Add in some sports (which I love  writing about) and family dynamics along with making the series edgier than anything I’ve written before (sexually) and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

Do you have a favorite book or author you like to recommend?
I read so much, so fast, I couldn’t possibly name them all. If I start, I’ll leave someone out  … but … here are SOME and apologies to the ones I don’t mention but do love – Kit Rocha, Shayla Black, Lexi Blake/Sophie Oak, Kelly Jamieson, Nalini Singh’s Psy series, Juliana Stone, Claudia Connor’s newest … clearly I’m a mostly erotic romance reader!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Besides reading? Chocolate!

Favorite meal?
Pizza

If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?
There’s something else besides writing? J

If you could travel through time, what time period would you visit?

I’d go to … ack. I wouldn’t. Because much as I love historical romance, I need showers and air conditioning. I was going to say Middle Ages because I loved reading those romances when I first started writing … but yeah. I think I’d have a real issue with the bathing thing.
