Review: "Vouloir" by J.D. Chase

  cooltext1932662140 Vouloir Cover

Vouloir: French meaning ‘to want’.

Want: To have a desire to possess something or someone; To have a strong desire to do something; To wish for something or someone; To desire sexually; To require something to be attended to in a particular manner.

Sexual Therapist by day and desirable Domme by night, La Veuve Noire is struggling to keep up with demand for her services. Whether it’s fixing them up or tying them down, Veuve’s skills are legendary. Juggling her demanding roles with looking after a mysterious nineteen year old, the Kid, her life is a balancing act. But the tart with a heart cannot resist taking on ‘just one more’ client. The problem is, there’s always ‘just one more’ client, and each one appears more needy than the last. Like Dean, the barman who’s taken advantage of his drunken boss and has to face up to being a flop between the sheets. Like Dan, a teenager in crisis who is contemplating the unthinkable. Juggling so much inevitably means that something gets dropped occasionally. La Veuve Noire, The Black Widow, hates to fail at anything and like everything in life, the higher the stakes, the greater the potential loss. With everyone turning to her in sheer desperation, she turns to her usual means of escape: the club, Vouloir. But Vouloir now holds a reminder of a distant past she strives to forget. Blond hair, blue eyes and unmistakable dominance tinged with danger. Is Jones the key to the Kid’s future? Or will he simply unlock the painful past? This three part series runs parallel/post parallel with Rouge Passion and features some of RP’s characters but it can be read as a standalone series.

La Veuve Noire is a woman with a past. It's one so fierce that she has boxed it up and thrown it away. When she became The Black Widow that part of her life was dead. Does it still cause a few problems? Of course, but she's a woman who knows her heart and her mind. She has a heart made of gold and that causes her to become attached easily to her patients. She has a way about her that even as a character gets you hooked in easily and quickly.  She's the type of woman that has that crass yet classy way about her that lets you know she's in control, but will go bitch psycho if you piss her off. It also causes clients to attach to her easily. This is what happens to Dan, her newest client. He has horrible self esteem even if he doesn't realize it. As La Veuve Noire begins to boost it we seem him go through some extreme circumstances.  He's beyond attracted to La Veuve Noire, but most people are. He's the hottie you see then realize there's issues, namely his mother. Then there is Jones, a man that scares her as much as he attracts her. He's a reminder of what has been and she can't see what could be. He's kind hearted and has witnessed great traumatic events during his years in the Royal Navy. He's also the one person that The Kid will open up to. The Kid is just that, a kid with a horrendous past. It's one that we get bits and pieces of through out the book. I know that when it all comes out it will be heart wrenching.

This story isn't what I expected, it's much more. There is always something going on and it's not just another BDSM book full of sex. There is sex there and it's STEAMY, but these characters all have their place in each others lives as well as in the story. By the end you get to see the whole theory of how we all are connected in some way and this is how they've met each other and taken that place. Toward the end I thought I knew how things were going to progress and end. No! Not at all. The end is a complete mind f*ck and I can't wait to find out the answers to just...How???  This book has twists, but you don't feel like your on a roller coaster. It has a steady pace and the events flow flawlessly together. The only thing I had a problem with were the initials for things. I admit I had to google to figure it out and then go on reading. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. I want answers!

I love reading - almost as much as I love writing.. I relish the sheer escapism of losing myself in a book that grips me and takes me on an emotional roller coaster. I regularly mourn the passing of a good book - am I the only one who turns the pages more slowly when you don’t want a great book to end? I love a good steamy romance and I adore sexy alpha males. I also have more than a passing interest in BDSM (nod, nod … wink, wink). One day, I put pen to paper (well fingers to keyboard, actually) and the Orion the Hunter series was born. Little did I know that, at that moment, I was sowing the seeds of change. For, just a few months later, as a somewhat bewildered Amazon Kindle bestselling Indie author, I quit my career as an education professional to write full time. Scary stuff, I think you’ll agree. 2013 was a very difficult year for me for personal reasons. It taught me how fragile life is and how important it is to grab it with both hands and ride the hell out of it. So in 2014, I began my comeback with the Amazon #1 Bestselling Erotica/Romantic Erotica bestselling series, Rouge Passion. I also met many of my favourite authors and so many lovely readers at my first signing event in Edinburgh. I flipped Stu Reardon’s kilt! Happy days … I have big plans for 2015. I’m signing at several more author events around the UK and I’m pouring my heart and soul into what I consider my best series yet - by far! Cue Passion Noire, a three part series revolving around La Veuve Noire - a sexual therapist by day and a desirable Domme by night. But fear not, sexy alphas are still on the menu. I mean … this is me!

Review: "EAST" by Lizzy Ford

The past is waiting.

Josie Jackson has been thrown back to the era of the Mongol Empire by Carter, the mastermind behind her trip to the Old West. Soon after arriving, she’s discovered by Carter’s enemies. They sever her connection to her handler, leaving her no choice but to obey them – or risk never making it home.

She completes the mission they assign her, only to have her hope of seeing her family and time again crushed. Her new handlers have stranded her in the past - alone, friendless and with no empathic memory chip to help her navigate the dangerous politics of an Empire at war.

When a Mongol warrior named Batu becomes her protector and guide, she can't decide if she's better off with him or alone. Strong, brave, loyal and quick to both laugh and kill, Batu and his world initially baffle her. With nowhere else to turn and no other option, Josie takes a chance to find happiness in the beautiful yet dangerous steppes of thirteenth century Mongolia.

The end of WEST literally ripped my heart out. I will never get over Taylor. Now East has happened. Ladies be prepared. I don't know who Carter is, but when I found out...

In this book Josie ends up in Mongolia. At the beginning it is the time of Genghis Khan, but then somehow Carter gets involved. She wakes decades later and now has her own guardian, Batu. He's a fierce warrior and though he's her guardian there are many times I wondered if she'd end up alive.

As the book goes on and Josie starts to accept her fate their relationship changes. As much as she isn't over Taylor she knows she can't survive without Batu. Their story isn't an easy one, though it's nothing like she experiences in WEST. This is a different time and different place. The customs take getting used to.

When secrets come out Josie has another difficult decision to make. It's one that will stop your heart again. This is another book where your going to need the tissues ladies. I was left with heart ache, fury, and I'm really impatiently waiting for the next book. Thank goodness Lizzy is a mad woman and can knock books out like crazy. Please let this be the top of the list!!!

Don't miss this book or this series. It's mysterious, it's magical, and yes a bit gut wrenching. It's all that and a bit of nail biting. Without a doubt I definitely recommend this book.

Review: "The Sicarii Series" by AJ Bennett and Julia Crane

The Sicarii Series
Hired Gun Serials 1-4
by AJ Bennett and Julia Crane
February 13, 2015

Tall, dark, and sexy as hell, Thorne Hollow knows the power he holds over the opposite sex and how to use it. Cast out by the gods thousands of years ago, he roams the earth working as an assassin for The Sicarii, a secret society who protects humans from all of the things that go bump in the night. One night stands are his way of life ... until he meets a mysterious woman whose intriguing power compels him to uncover more about her and the strange magic she wields. Completed Hired Gun Serial.

Thorne is a bad ass that's also a hired assassin. He also happens to be immortal and half God. he's been booted from the realm as punishment. His time on earth has been long and time drags for him. The only thing keeping him sane is his involvement in the Sicarii society, his best friend, and his womanizing. When he gets involved with a witch she knocks out his last sanity saver.

"The Chameleon" that's what Thorne has dubbed his witch. Why? He knows nothing else about her information wise. Sexually? Well that is a completely different story and that is combustible. She makes him want to go against his rules and he doesn't know why. She puts him on a complete mind trip. When he finds the answers as to why, he suffers a completely different type of obstacle.

This is a great paranormal series with a new spin on an old group of characters. The story is inventive and highly enjoyable. The characters are steamy and at times crass. That's what makes them so great. The story has a great pace and keeps your interest from the beginning to the end. It's full of funny moments.  I love Nike's character in it. She's sarcastic at every moment she can be. The ending surprised me. I thought it was going to go a completely different way. I definitely recommend this series and can't wait to see the next books for the rest of the cast.

A.J. Bennett lives in Nashville, TN with her husband and bulldog. She's addicted to coffee, popcorn and books. Becoming an author has been a lifelong dream, and she's extremely excited about
her debut novel Now or Never.

When you put a shy woman in a room full of SEALS dressed for Halloween funny things happen. When the same woman has a loud and boisterous friend trying to get the woman out of her shell, it can be dangerous. Combine a Twinkie with Superman and the chemistry is combustible.

Livi is known as The Body Babe, but what's not known is how withdrawn she really is.
Mitch is a SEAL's SEAL, he's the best of the best, but though he's always reached his goals, they haven't been an ultimate goal placed for himself. When the two come together, feelings appear quickly and they learn as much about themselves as they do about each other. In the beginning of the story it seems likes it's going to be a fast paced romance. I like that this book is a little more realistic than that. Though the relationship evolves quick, it's actually over a period of time and getting to know each other beyond just physically. These characters and the situation are realistic.

This book is full of passion, a bit of romance, a lot of awkwardness, and of course some drama. I'd love to read a book for Tessa and Gabriel. There is seriously a story there! I loved this book. I truly went into it wondering if it was going to be another one of "those military books". This SO is not the case.  If you know anyone in the Navy, you know this is the way it works.  You may not speak to your significant for weeks at a time and when you do, it's 5 minutes literally. I appreciate that the author brought that into the story. Too many books gloss over the difficulty with these types of relationships and the struggles with being in them. It's not always hard bodies and perfect times. This is truly a Navy book that I would recommend. I look forward to reading other books by this author.

“I guess I’ll see you sometime.”
He understood her suspicions.  Navy guys weren’t known for sticking around.  Not because they were dogs—although every branch of the military had their share fit for kenneling.  It was because they were deployed for long periods of time, months, years in submarines, on ships, in other countries.
That sort of lifestyle didn’t lend itself to dating, let alone relationships.  It was irresponsible to pretend otherwise.
Mitch looked into Livi’s big brown eyes and couldn’t resist, though.
“I’ll see you when I get back in town,” he promised.  “In the meantime, tell me your number.”
            She rattled it off.
“Aren’t you going to write it down?” she asked with a frown as she slid off the crate.
“I never forget things that matter,” he promised. “I’ll call you when I get back into town.”
“Will you be gone long?” she asked, her fingers rubbing the sleeve-hem of his shirt so her knuckles slid over his bicep.
He wasn’t going on a mission, per se.  Nothing about his trip was top secret.  Still, Mitch didn’t share any details of what he did.  An overcautious habit, perhaps, but a habit nonetheless.
            “I’ll call you,” he said.
Unable to resist one last kiss, he pulled her into his arms and gave himself over to whatever in the hell this was between them.
Lust.  Desire.  Passion or a trap, he didn’t know.
All he knew was that he’d never felt anything like this before.
Mitch slowly ended the kiss, his fingers skimming her cheek before he released her.
“You’re so sweet,” he said with a smile.  “I never realized how addicting that could be.”
Then he did what he’d spent his entire life training to do.
He walked out, and didn’t look back.

Q&A With Tawny

How did you come up with the idea for this story?

The hero in A SEAL’s Secret made an appearance in a previous Sexy SEAL book, Christmas with a SEAL, and I knew he had to have his own story.   In addition, I wanted to write a story that danced through the holidays.  A SEAL’s Secret opens at Halloween and moves through the year until Labor Day, hitting each holiday in a special way.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
The biggest challenge after 34 books is keeping the love scenes fresh.  I try to make sure each scene is especially suited to the characters and their challenges and story hook.

What are your current projects?
I’m currently working on a Blaze titled A SEAL’s Temptation, as well as a single title SEAL story that I’m really excited about.

Tell us about your first book. What would readers find different about the first one and your most recent published work?
I loved that book!  Double Dare came out in 2007 and was so fun for me.  The heroine was a bad girl who was balancing an exciting new career and her old lifestyle.  Her friends dare her to ‘do the first guy to walk into the bar’.  The story includes a sexy cyber cop, a dorky villain and an ugly tie.   I really loved that story, and I love the ones I’m writing now.  It’s difficult for me to analyze my own work, but I do think that my writing is a little smoother now, and the stories and characters deeper.  I’m able to take risks with the stories now that I couldn’t then, too.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
I’m always fascinated to see what readers take away from my stories.  There is often a specific emotional challenge that I’ll focus on in any given book, but the consistent theme is to believe in themselves, and that we’re all stronger with love.

Does music play any type of role in your writing?
I create a playlist for each book I write. Some songs make it into each playlist because the beat, the energy of them just make it easier to write to.  Others tap into the story’s theme, or the characters.  And as I often write holiday stories, I have a great collection of Christmas songs to listen to in May now J

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your life?
I never write about personal experiences or real people, per se.  But my husband was in the military and is still very involved in Veteran’s programs, and we have a lot of family who served or are currently serving our country.  So my Sexy SEAL’s do tap into the feelings and the challenges that I’ve observed—but again, not actual events or people J

What books have influenced your life most?
In fiction, Nora Roberts books have influenced me the most, both as a person and as a writer.  In non-fiction, Dr. Wayne Dyer is my hero.  I love his message, his writing and the inspiration he offers.

Are there any new authors that have grasp your interest?
Sara Jane Stone is amazing.  I’ve been loving her books.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I’m working on two stories right now, but in the Sexy SEAL series.  A SEAL’s Temptation has a quiet hero and a reluctant heroine up against a wily pair of matchmakers who are sure that good sex will cure all their friends’ woes.  I’m also working on a single-title length Sexy SEAL story, A SEAL’s Betrayal.  Its more complex than my usual SEALs, and so far has been fabulous to write.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
            Thank you!!!!

How can readers discover more about you and your work?
The best way is to visit my website at  I have all of my new releases, book news, information on past releases and fun stuff there.

Do you have a special time to write? How is your day structured writing-wise?
I tend to do most of my writing at night, usually from 10pm until 2 or 3am.  Depending on deadlines and how the story is going, I’ll often put in a few more hours in the later afternoon as well.

Why did you choose to write [genre] stories?
I love romance and I believe in the power of love to make a difference in peoples’ lives.  Romance novels explore such a range of emotions, but always offer my favorite thing—Happy Ever After.

What is for you the perfect book hero?
The perfect book hero is a guy who makes me tingle.  One who makes me wish he’d climb out of the pages and rock my world.

When you start a book, do you already have the whole story in your head or is it built progressively?
I always start a new book with a general idea of the story, of the character’s issues and challenges, and with the dark moment in mind. Usually after the third chapter I have a stronger feeling for all of that and create a storyboard so I know how to get the characters from their challenge to the dark moment and then happy ever after.

When and why did you begin writing?
I started writing in 2002 after a conversation with my husband.  He’d asked me what my dream career would be.  I told him I’d love to be a romance author.  And even though I had a million excuses why I couldn’t do it, he challenged me to make my dream come true.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I considered myself a writer as soon as I mastered the concept of point-of-view and scene/sequel.  I considered myself an author after my first book was out.

List three books you have recently read and would recommend.
            Nora Roberts’ Dark Witch trilogy
Sara  Jane Stone’s Hero by Night
Mark Divine’s The Way of the SEAL

Tell us something that people would be surprised you know how to do.
I’m a tarot reader, and actually did that for a living for awhile.

Will you write more about these characters?
One of the things I love about writing the Sexy SEAL series is that I’m always writing very hot, very powerful, very yummy heroes.  But added to that, I’m able to revisit a lot of the characters in subsequent books, so the readers get to see how they’re doing after they’ve found their happy-ever-after.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
I started writing in February of 2002 and finished my first book in November of that same year.
What do you do when you are not writing?
I homeschool my daughter, I do a lot of crafts like scrapbooking and card making, I exercise (not enough) and I cuddle with my husband.
Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
I’d like to say it’s all realistically imaginative.
Are there certain characters you would like to go back to, or is there a theme or idea you’d love to work with?
I’d love to write a book with children at some point.  Kids are amazing characters in and of themselves, and added to a story would bring so much fun and depth.
Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
I’d like to say thank you to all of them and send a big hug of appreciation for their support of my books.
Where do you get your muses?
            Zeus made them J
Who are your top five favorite authors?
Nora Roberts, Wayne Dyer, Jennifer Cruise, Carly Phillips, Vicki Lewis Thompson
What are you currently reading?"
The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks.  Last night I finished Calculated in Death by JD Robb
How did you research Mitch's Navy Seal character?
My husband works with a former SEAL who has been wonderful about giving me insights.  I also spoke with a number of Navy veterans, and, of course, made good use of Google.
What was your favorite part of writing A Seal's Secret?
The final scene was my absolute favorite because my daughter named the character that’s introduced at the end of the story.
What is your writing process?
I usually come up with either the hook or a character first, then build the story around that until I have enough to write a rough outline (a paragraph or so, no more than a page).  Then I write the partial, and that takes awhile because I often rewrite, revise and redo until I feel like I really know the characters, their personality, their goals and quirks. At that point I’ll put together a plotting board to outline the rest of the story and write until I hit the end.  I usually make notes of any changes or issues as I go, then when the manuscript is finished I use those notes and go back through to make the changes and give it a good polish.
Northern California - what is your favorite sight, sound, and smell.
            Blue skies, birds and redwoods.
What would we find in your garden?
Lavender and roses, daisies and a gorgeous lipstick plant, a lemon tree, grapefruit tree, avocado tree (sadly not bearing fruit yet), a dormant vegetable garden and 4 huge redwood trees.
Can you share a secret about the Romance Bandits?"
Hmm, how about this... The Golden Rooster isn’t  really real J

I’ve always known she was too good for me, but that never stopped me from wanting her.

And then I finally had her for one night.

After reading Beneath This Mask, I couldn't wait for this book to come out. Simon was great and all, but Con...WOW! There's always something special about the bad boy and Con is a good man underneath. The things we find out about in him in this story don't always add up. Once the story is done though? I fell in love! Smiles, rainbows, and I found my happy. I have to admit to a wondering eye though, because I'm already wondering what Lucas and Lord are going to bring to the table.

But enough about the men, because sadly Con is now taken by Vanessa. They had one passionate night, followed by an explosive morning, and then never spoke again.  When Con is Vanessa's last hope though she comes wanting favors. Con has his own favor to ask though and he comes around it the gentlemanly way.  He has a lot of rough edges and a chip on his shoulder, but when it comes to Vanessa his approach is different.

Vanessa finds out through trial and error just how different Con really is. Of course, Con finds out that the Vanessa of long ago is nothing like the one he remembers. She had flaws and though she has always been his "perfect princess" there are things that lurk in the dark recesses that she struggles with today.

Can I just say that this ending shocked me! Most books don't shock me like this. I truly didn't see it coming until it was out in all of it's flaming aftermath. This book will affect you, if it doesn' don't have a heart. There are a multitude of "Oh" moments. Some of them are good, some are bad, and others will bring tears even to the hard folk.

Meghan March has a truly resounding series going on here.  I love the un-perfect characters. I love the deep secrets. I love how the hoity toity just aren't under neath. You don't want to miss this book. You don't want to miss this series. I won't be missing the others to come!

“Con, can you take this walk-in?” Delilah called from the front of the shop.

I pushed back from the desk and shoved my hair away from my face. It was too damn long. I needed to get it cut, but the girl I’d been going to for the last year had basically fallen onto my cock last week, and I wasn’t going to be letting her near my jugular with scissors any time soon. She wasn’t enamored of my, ‘I don’t go there twice unless there’s something worth going back for’ mentality. I probably could have phrased it a little nicer, but why give the girl false hope when I’d all but forgotten her as soon as I’d slid the condom off my dick? I didn’t have time for bullshit, and I didn’t like to be misunderstood when I spoke. So I was firmly in the ‘tell it how it is’ camp. Women didn’t seem to appreciate my particular brand of honesty. Mostly because it didn’t line up with what they wanted to hear. Not my problem.

I stood and headed for the door of the break room. Time to meet my newest walk-in.

If I had to tattoo one more “YOLO” on some idiot kid, I might hang up my tattoo gun and call it a day. Thoughts like that made me feel older than thirty-one.

I scanned the shop, looking for my next client. If I hadn’t learned a hell of a long time ago how to lock down my reactions, I might’ve missed a step.

It was no kid.

And if she wanted YOLO tattooed on that body, it’d be a crime against nature. Anger flared within me at the sight of her. I might not remember the night we’d spent together, but I sure as hell remembered the morning after when I’d interrupted her escape from my bedroom. We’d thrown words like grenades, and it was a miracle we’d both walked away without bloodshed. Even with that memory vividly replaying in my head, I still had to tell my dick to calm the fuck down.

Vanessa Fucking Frost was still out of my league. Hell, out of my fucking universe. She’d been too good for me in high school, she’d been too good for me two years ago, and as sure as she was standing in my shop today, she was still too damn good for me. And I bet she’d be the first person to say it. I still couldn’t figure out how she’d ended up in my bed that night. Not because my bed didn’t see action with rich chicks—it saw plenty—but not like her. Classic elegance like Grace Kelly. Joy Leahy used to make me watch To Catch a Thief with her, and that’s exactly who Vanessa reminded me of.

Her platinum blond hair was twisted up into some fancy ass bun, and her tan skirt suit clung to her curves in all the right places. One perfectly manicured hand toyed with the gold bracelet on her wrist. My jeans tightened uncomfortably at the peek of a lacy pink bra from beneath her pink silk blouse.

My reaction to her pissed me off.

Do you know what it’s like to finally get something you’ve always wanted, but not remember a single fucking detail?

It ate away it me. The not knowing. Part of me wanted to tell her to get the hell out of my shop, but the other part of me wanted to drag her upstairs, strip her naked, and tie her to my bed so this time she couldn’t leave until I was damn good and ready. Which might be never. And that thought—that weakness—infuriated me.

“Never thought I’d see you darken my doorway again. What can I do for you, princess?” A mocking edge colored my words.

Her nervous twirling of her bracelet halted, and her blue eyes, several shades lighter and more vibrant than my own, met mine. Her pink tongue darted out over her perfectly plump bottom lip slicked with gloss. This nervous, off-balance look of hers raised all my red flags. I was used to the quiet, sexy-as-all-hell confidence that had always drawn me in. At least until she’d opened her mouth that infamous morning and told me what she’d really thought of me.

“I need a few moments of your time.”

I raised an eyebrow. Now that was a new development. She’d never sought me out.

“Is that so?”

“Yes, if you could spare me five minutes.”

Some of her words from that morning, which I might as well have tattooed on my skin, came back to me: Do this again? Are you crazy? I must have been insane to do this the first time. This can never happen again. And no one can ever know. No one.

And now she wanted a favor?

“In this shop, the only way a woman gets my time is if she’s getting a tattoo, or is on her knees or her back.” I knew my answer was crude, but that was what she undoubtedly expected from me. And I hated to disappoint.

A flush of color hit her cheekbones, and I wondered for a brief second whether she was remembering what it had been like to be on her knees in front of me. Fuck. I wish I remembered. Then I could just fucking move on.

I waited for the clipped go to hell and an abrupt exit. But instead of turning and walking out, she surprised me.

“A tattoo it is, then.”
