A standalone novel in the Sons of War contemporary military romance series …
Petr’s life changed overnight when an ambush not only killed his twin, but left him wounded beyond repair as well. Tormented by that night, he struggles to put his life back together and to find purpose in the support role his injury forces him to take. Yet his heart and soul ache to be with his buddies at war, and nothing seems soothe the hole inside him.
Until he meets Claudia, the sister of a troubled boy Petr meets during a recruitment trip to a local school. Claudia’s got her own demon in the form of an abusive ex-boyfriend who won’t stop stalking her. She’s weary of starting over in a new place every month and working to make ends meet to support her younger brother, who she fears has fallen in with the wrong crowd despite her best efforts to help him.
Unable to reconcile his own feelings about what happened to him, Petr’s protective instinct nonetheless makes him want to reach out to her.
Can a man who views himself as broken and a woman unable to trust help each other heal?

In Semper Mine, Petr was the wounded brother left to find his way in the world. He's much the same and yet very changed in this book. He's healing physically, but has suffered a lot emotionally. The sure and cocky man is now insecure. His ex has hugely contributed to this.

When Petr meets Todd he is the catalyst that changes Petr's life as he knows it. Todd is a troubled teen he meets during a class visit. He soon meets Todd's sister Claudia. The attraction is there, but she's guarded. It's up to Petr to find out what the history is that causes Todd's problems and  Claudia's fear.

Petr is as genuine a character as you'll ever find. He takes things on the chin that would break any other person. He stays positive and tries to help others. His priorities are his family, his service, and helping the community. Claudia puts her brother first. She caused the problems that keeps them running and she just wants his safety. She is full of fear and love that wants to be released, but is too afraid to let go.

This story is part fairy tale, part nightmare. It's a slow courtship, a hard friendship, and instant chemistry. The flow of the books gives the information slow enough to keep things interesting and not give things away too soon. This is a great addition to the series, but now that there are no more free siblings I wonder who the next soldier would be. Maybe Riley? I want to know what becomes of Orion as well. This is definitely a book to read.
